user manual / manuel d'utilisation / Benutzerhandbuch
1
General Information
This equipment is designed, manufactured and tested in accordance with the ap-
plicable European Regulations and Directives and complies with the relevant safety
provisions of EN ISO 4413.
It is imperative to strictly follow the instructions in this manual and in the specific
manuals when they exist and are relevant. The supplier accepts no liability for direct or
indirect material or human damage resulting from failure to comply with the following
instructions, nor for the consequences such as, for example, operating losses, etc. Be-
fore commissioning and during operation, the operator must take into account and is
fully responsible for compliance with the regulations in force at the place of installation
concerning gas loaded accumulators and must carefully keep the documents supplied
with the device throughout its operating life. They may be required during inspections.
2
Handling and Storing
The original packaging is suitable for handling and storage, unless otherwise specified.
The device must not be subjected to even slight shocks.
Store in a cool, dry place. Do not expose to flame or heat.
The storage period should not exceed 5 years.
All openings must remain sealed during storage to protect the unit from pollution and
internal corrosion.
3
Block Labelling and Marking
The information and markings may not be changed without the prior written consent
of Parker.
The following information is shown on the block:
Parker logo.
Company name and manufacturing site.
Product reference.
Date of manufacture (week/year).
Permissible temperature range TS in [°C].
Maximum allowable pressure PS in [bar].
Serial number.
Hydraulic diagram.
4
Commissioning
Before installing and operating the safety and isolation unit, the instructions and safety
information in this manual must be read carefully.
Commissioning should only be carried out by qualified technicians (contact
Parker or its authorised network). Before installation, visually inspect the unit
for damage.
Before working on the hydraulic systems, make sure that there is no pressure.
Improper installation can lead to serious accidents, pressure fluid leakage
and/or bursting.
It is strictly forbidden to:
weld, sol, drill or any other operation on the block that may alter its mechanical
properties
The accumulator must be connected to port A of the block with the appropriate
fitting.
The hydraulic pressure source must be connected to port P of the block.
The connection between the block and the tank is made through port T.
Check that the voltage of the electrical control signal matches the coil on the
bleed valve (optional).
4.1
Preparing for commissioning
Checking the operating limits:
The pressure in the hydraulic system must not exceed the PS of the block.
The operating temperature range of the system and the environment must not
exceed the TS of the block.
The set pressure of the pressure relief valve must be less than or equal to the
PS of the accumulator.
The block is designed for use with mineral oil type fluid, for use with other fluid
consult PARKER.
The block is not designed for use with a group 1 fluid as defined in the Pressure
Equipment Directive PED 2014/68/EU.
It is the responsibility of the circuit designer to provide the necessary elements
to avoid overpressure, overflow in the tank (valve on the return line, sufficient
vent on the tank, etc.), particularly in the event of accidental rupture of the ac-
cumulator separator (bladder, diaphragm, piston).
4.2
Documentary inspection
The following documents are provided with each safety block:
Operating instructions
Pressure relief valve calibration certificate
Pressure relief valve operating instructions
Any other certificates must be specially requested before ordering.
4.3
Installation
Before connecting the safety and isolation unit, it is essential to check that the
connections are suitable for the circuit and the accumulator.
The accumulator must be connected to port A of the block with the appropriate
fitting.
The hydraulic pressure source must be connected to port P of the block.
The connection between the block and the tank is made through port T.
Check that the voltage of the electrical control signal matches the coil on the
bleed valve (optional).

4.4
Isolation valve locking option
The user can easily choose between the two-position (valve open or valve closed) or
single-position (valve closed) locking system.
Unscrew the screw/washer assembly of the shut-off handle (1+2).
Remove the shut-off handle (3).
Position the upper locking plate (4) in the desired position (refer to the marking
on the plate):
No visible marking: Locking only possible in closed valve position
Visible "S" marking: Locking possible in both positions
Reassemble the parts in the opposite direction, making sure that the screw/
washer assembly holding the isolation handle is tight.
This operation can be carried out after the block has been installed in the circuit,
preferably when there is no pressure in the circuit.
5
Maintenance
Maintenance must only be carried out by qualified technicians, with consideration given
to the explosion risk. Preventive maintenance periodicities for a safe use depend on the
installation and operating conditions (contact Parker or an approved Parker agent).
It is recommended to check at regular intervals:
The general condition of the safety block
Cleanliness
Any leaks in the connections or in the
various components
Also refer to local regulations.
5.1
Other operations
You are advised to carry out regularly the following checks:
Check the safety devices and connections
Check the safety block mountings
Visually inspect the safety block for any sign of wear and tear such as deforma-
tion or corrosion
If you are using an abrasive or corrosive fluid, check the inside of the safety
block.
Check earthing (continuity)
Visually inspect the rubber sealing parts
Preventive maintenance periodicities for a safe use depend on the installation and
operating conditions.
Contact Parker or an approved Parker agent
To maintain a safety block when it is in service (regular re-qualification operations, etc.),
refer to the current site regulations.
For disassembly, cleaning and reassembly operations contact Parker or an approved
Parker agent.
Use only original spare parts.
5.2
Regulations and Directives
Pressure Equipment Directive PED 2014/68/EU
The SB blocks meet the essential safety requirements concerning the risk of overpres-
sure in gas loaded accumulators.
REACH Regulation 1907/2006 EU
Important: this information is subject to change in line with the half-yearly publication
of the list of candidate substances of very high concern for authorisation on the ECHA
(European Chemical Agency) website.
All the articles in the SB range comply with REACH regulations. These articles do not
contain any substance of very high concern (SVHC) in their composition at a concen-
tration higher than 0.1% by weight.
ROHS Directive 2011/65/EU
The optional electrical components of the SB range (electric coils) comply with the
ROHS Directive.
ATEX Directive2014/34/UE
Manually operated SB blocks do not fall within the scope of the ATEX Directive
2014/34/EU as they do not have their own ignition sources.
The product is considered a "simple" mechanical product as defined in paragraph §38
of the ATEX Guidelines 2014/34/EU.
IMPORTANT
Electrically operated versions must never be used in an explosive atmosphere.
Where potentially flammable atmospheres exist, it is imperative that the user
take into account the risk of electrostatic ignition.
6
Recycling
Before destroying or recycling a safety block, relieve it of any residual pressure. Decon-
taminate it if necessary and separate the metal parts from the electrical parts if they are
present (electric coils).
For each type of component (mechanical or electrical), refer to the applicable rules for
each country.
