Q. Why does the Drobo S have two FireWire ports? Can I connect it to
two computers at the same time via FireWire?
A. No. You cannot connect the Drobo S to two computers at the same
time. The two FireWire ports are for daisy chaining devices only. If
you are connecting your Drobo S to your Windows/Mac/Linux
computer using FireWire, the second connection can be used, for
example, to daisy chain another Drobo device.
Q. Can I use two interfaces on my Drobo S at the same time?
A. No. You can only use one Drobo S interface connection to your
computer at a time. For example, if you plug both USB 2.0 and
FireWire 800 cables from the Drobo S to your computer, Drobo S will
select USB 2.0 by default, we recommend you never configure your
system in this manner.
If you do need to change to an alternate interface, safely shut down
your Drobo S. Change the interface cables on the Drobo S, then
power the Drobo S back up. If you are sharing your Drobo S with
multiple computers, you do not have to use the same interface on
both computers, but you must power down the unit before switching
interfaces.
Q. How can I safely shut down Drobo S for a prolonged period?
A. Click the "Shut Down" command from the Advanced Controls ->
Tools tab of Drobo Dashboard. The power light will turn off once you
have safely shut down. You can now safely disconnect power and
store your Drobo S for a prolonged period.
If you do not have access to Drobo Dashboard for any reason, then:
1. Turn off your computer and wait for power light to
change from green to orange.
2. Disconnect the USB, FireWire 800 or eSATA cable and wait
for power light to change from green to orange.
3. Press (toggle) the power switch on the back of the
Drobo S.
