– If you have any bleeding disorder; also, if you use anticoagulation medications.
– Over or near silicone implants or piercings.
– Immediately after cosmetic treatment (e.g. after AHA, botulotoxin treatment etc.).
– If you visit tanning centre.
– In moles (neither near them nor over them!), freckles, darker pigmented areas, scars
or other skin irregularities.
– If you have warts, freckles, tattoos or permanent make-up on the area to be treated
– If you have used long-lasting deodorant on the area to be epilated.
– If your skin tone is very dark (see part "Skin type „below). The dark skin absorbs more
light energy, which may result in unpleasant or painful sensation and undesired effects
(e.g. burning, blisters formation, discoloration or scarification) and damage to skin.
– If your skin is very sensitive.
– If you suffer from solar urticaria (allergy to sun).
– Before or shortly after IPL application, do not use any cosmetic products (e.g. products
with pigments, perfumes, alcohol, AHA alpha hydroxy acids, BHA beta acid, azelaic acid,
etc.).
– In any other case which would be considered by your doctor as risky for the use of this
device.
The above-mentioned lists are not complete and do not include all possible cases
and complications, that may exclude the use of IPL technology. In case of any
doubts you should contact your dermatologist or general practitioner.
Further, special attention should be paid to the issue of tanning. Do not use the device on
recently tanned or artificially tanned skin! All types of tanning (natural, as well as artificial
one, including the use of self-tanners) may reduce the safety of IPL treatment, as the skin
becomes very sensitive. Do not use also if you are planning to travel soon e.g. to the sea
and to get exposed to the sunlight. It applies also vice versa - after IPL treatment, do not
expose your unprotected skin to any tanning or sunlight for at least 2-3 weeks. Regarding
the above-mentioned, it is not recommended to use the device in summer months (or in days
with increased sunlight, regardless the season of the year), when people are generally very
often exposed to the sunlight. Also be cautious if you have had chemical hair removal, skin
bleaching, or vitamin A cosmetic products in the last 30 days.
Skin type
IPL technology has its advantages and limitations. One of the main factors, determining
the resulting effect and the safety of use of the IPL device, is the skin tone and the colour
of hair. To put it simply, the best results are achieved by the persons with light skin and
dark hair. The darker the hair, the more energy from the flashes is absorbed, making the
epilation more effective. However, the darker skin tone is less desirable from the point of
view of the safety in case of skin discoloration.
Therefore, the device is not intended for use by the persons with very dark skin tone, as
there is a risk of skin injury (e.g. burning). If your skin tone is very dark, do not use the
device.
If you have a darker skin tone (and before using the device for the first time) always start
the epilation at the lowest intensity. Only after you make sure that given setting does not
cause any complications, you can increase the light intensity setting, if needed.
