► Barbed wire or razor wire must not be electrified by an energiser.
► Non‑electrified barbed wire or razor wire can be used to support one or
more offset electrified wires of an electrified animal fence (electric fence). The
electrified wires must be vertically spaced at least 150 mm away from the
non‑electrified wires using supports. Ensure that the non‑electrified wire is
grounded at regular intervals.
► If two separate electrified animal fences (electric fences) are supplied by
separate, independently cycled energisers, a minimum distance of 2.5 m
must be maintained between the wires of the two electrified animal fences
(electric fences). If the area needs to be closed off, use only electrically non‑
conductive materials or an isolated metal barrier.
► Ensure that all auxiliary, mains‑operated equipment connected to the
electrified animal fence circuit has the same isolation level as the electric
fence energiser being used.
► Ensure that the additional equipment is protected from the weather during
operation. Outdoor use is only permitted if it has been certified by the
manufacturer and the equipment has a minimum protection rating of IPX4.

SAFETY DURING OPERATION

WARNING AGAINST ELECTRICAL VOLTAGES
► Check your fence system for correct voltage, grounding, marking and other
defects on a daily basis. Document the measured fence voltages, if necessary.
Do not use multimeters to check the voltage. These are not suitable for
the high voltages generated by the electric fence energiser. Use specialist
voltmeters to check the voltage.
► Lightning can cause fires to ignite on electric fence systems and trigger
malfunctions. Disconnecting the fence line controller from the power source
before a storm or possible lightning strike can minimise the effect of the
lightning. Install a lightning conductor between the fence and the controller
to divert electricity from the lightning into the earth before it damages the
fence controller.
► Avoid placing flammable objects near your electric fence. Another way to
reduce the fire hazard is to cut down nearby vegetation as short circuits in
the fence system can produce sparks.
► Do not use the device where there is a risk of flooding the electrified animal
fence (electric fence).
► If the pulse interval is less than 1 second, shut down the energiser immediately
and have it repaired if necessary. A pulse interval of over 1.7 seconds means
that the energiser is no longer providing sufficient security and requires
inspection.
