Intended use
This thermostat is intended for temperature control e.g. of radiators for temperatures between +30°C to
+90°C.
The safety and installation instructions must be observed.
This product complies with the applicable national and European specifications. Any company or product

Safety instructions
a) General
The guarantee will be void if damage is incurred resulting from non-compliance with these
operating instructions! We assume no liability for any consequential damage!
We do not assume liability for personal injury or material damage resulting from improper
use or disregarding the safety instructions! In such cases the warranty is voided!
• For safety reasons, any unauthorized conversion and/or modifications to the product are
not permitted. Never dismantle the product.
• Do not expose the product to extreme temperatures, strong vibrations or strong mechanical
stress.
• The product must not get damp or wet. It is suitable for dry indoor use only.
• The product is not a toy and must be kept out of the reach of children!
• The product is designed for use on a mains voltage of 230V~/50Hz only.
• Do not leave the packaging material lying around carelessly, as it can become a
dangerous toy for children.
• In commercial facilities the regulations for the prevention of accidents as laid down by the
professional trade association for electrical equipment and devices must be observed!
b) Installation
• The product may only be installed by a qualified specialist (e.g. electrician) familiar with
the relevant regulations (e.g. VDE, German electrical wiring regulations)!
Improper work on the mains voltage not only poses a risk to you, but also to others!
If you do not have the expertise required for the installation, do not do it yourself but hire
a qualified specialist.
• The thermostat must only be installed and used in closed housings. Only the adjustment
pin that holds the control knob may protrude. The provided control knob (or a different
suitable control knob) must be installed on the adjustment pin.
• Absolutely make sure you observe the required safety distance between parts carrying
mains voltage (contacts of the thermostat, connections, etc.) and tangible parts of the
housing (the device in which the thermostat is installed).
• The device in which the thermostat is to be installed must be disconnected from the mains
voltage and any other cables/lines.
Ovens are generally connected directly to an oven mains supply and cannot be
unplugged. First, turn off the oven power supply (e.g. via the circuit breaker). Also turn
off the corresponding RCD.
• Capacitors in the device in which the thermostat is to be installed might still be charged
for a long period of time after the device has been switched off and disconnected from
the mains supply.
There is danger to life through an electric shock!
• The power input of the thermostat (see "specifications") must not be exceeded.
• The metal housing of the thermostat must be connected to the protective conductor (PE).
For that purpose, the thermostat is equipped with a connecting contact marked with the
earth symbol.
If the protective conductor is interrupted or not connected, touching conductive parts may
lead to a deadly electric shock.
• Make sure the capillary tube and the sensor are not bent, squeezed or damaged
otherwise when you install them.
The capillary tube and the sensor must not be shortened or cut.
Do not screw objects, screws or similar, through the sensor end.
This renders the thermostat unserviceable!
Connection
w w w. c o n r a d . c o m
Version 01/09
The thermostat is equipped with 4 connections for cable lugs. Connections "1", "2", and "4" (marked on the
thermostat housing) are the switching contact. The protective conductor connection is marked with the
earth symbol. It has to be connected to the protective conductor of the device in which the thermostat is
installed.
In case of doubt, have a specialist carry out the installation and connection.
Mode of operation
The long capillary tube, which is tightly attached to the thermostat, is filled with a fluid that expands with
increasing temperature. At the end of the capillary tube in the thermostat there is a so-called pressure cell
which has been pre-tensioned by the adjustment pin.
For example, a radiator activated via the switching contact raises the temperature, the sensor fluid warms
up and expands.
At a certain temperature the actuator breaks the circuit at the pressure cell.
The temperature falls again, the fluid in the capillary tube contracts.
At a certain temperature the circuit is closed again and the process repeats itself.
The temperature at which the thermostat breaks the circuit is set with the adjustment pin.
Since the adjustment is not digital, this thermostat does not allow you to set an exact temperature.

Observe the safety instructions!
Due to the change-over contact, control can be in cooling direction as well as in heating
direction, depending on which contacts of the thermostat are used (1 + 4 or 1 + 2).
Please dispose of the unserviceable device according to the current statutory requirements.
Resistive load: 16 A
Inductive load: 4 A
