EPM 1L-16 BUILT-IN DIGITAL ENERGY METER
Item No. 12 54 20
1.
INTENDED USE
This product is designed to measure and analyse the consumption data of electrical appliances. The product
is plugged between the voltage source (230 V/AC) and the consumer load to be measured. The maximum
nominal output of the consumer load must not exceed 3680 W. The product can be damaged when overloaded.
The product includes an internal memory. Thanks to the standard dimensions of 72 x 72 mm the product is
suitable for installation in switchboards.
This product fulfils European and national requirements related to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
CE conformity has been verified and the relevant statements and documents have been deposited at
the manufacturer.
Unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the device are inadmissible because of safety and approval
reasons (CE). Any usage other than described above is not permitted and can damage the product and lead to
associated risks such as short-circuit, fire, electric shock, etc. Please read the operating instructions thoroughly
and keep them for further reference.

SAfETY INSTRUCTIONS
We do not assume liability for resulting damages to property or personal injury if the
product has been abused in any way or damaged by improper use or failure to observe
these operating instructions. The warranty/ guarantee will then expire!
The icon with exclamation mark indicates important information in the operating
instructions. Carefully read the whole operating instructions before operating the device,
otherwise there is risk of danger.
Persons / Product
Products operated using the mains voltage must be kept out of the reach of children. For this reason, be
particularly careful when using the product in the presence of children. They may try to stick objects into the
device through openings in the housing. This poses a risk of death by electric shock.
When used in conjunction with other devices, observe the operating instructions and safety notices of
connected devices.
The product must not be subjected to heavy mechanical stress.
Operate the product in dry interior spaces only. It must not get damp or wet. Otherwise there is a risk of a
life-threatening electric shock!
Protect the product from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, strong jolts, high humidity, moisture,
flammable gases, vapours and solvents.
If it is no longer possible to operate the product safely, take it out of operation and protect it from any
accidental use. Safe operation can no longer be guaranteed if the product::
-
is visibly damaged,
-
is no longer working properly,
-
has been stored for extended periods in poor ambient conditions or
-
has been subjected to any serious transport-related stresses.
Please handle the product carefully. Jolts, impacts or a fall even from a low height can damage the
product.
Do not drill any holes or insert any screws into the housing to attach or mount the product. This can damage
the product and interfere with safety.
Consult an expert when in doubt about operation, safety or connection of the device.
In schools, training facilities, hobby or self-service workshops, handling of electrical devices must be
monitored by trained personnel.
When operating on commercial premises, the relevant accident prevention regulations of workers'
compensation boards for electrical equipment must be observed.
Miscellaneous
The measurement may be distorted. Avoid an operation near:
-
strong magnetic or electromagnetic fields
-
transmitter aerials or HF generators
Repair works must only be carried out by a specialist/ specialist workshop.
If you have queries about handling the device, that are not answered in this operating instruction, our
technical support is available under the following address and telephone number: Voltcraft

INSTALLATION / CONNECTION
Switch off the mains before you start the installation/connection process.
Be especially careful when dealing with voltages higher than 25 V/AC. Even at such
voltages you can receive a life-threatening electric shock when you come into contact
with electric wires.
In no event exceed the max. permitted input values.
1.
Loosen the four screws at the back of the measurement instrument and remove both mounting brackets.
2.
Install the product in a suitable location, e.g. in a switchboard. Make sure that the product is provided with
adequate ventilation during operation. Keep a minimum distance of approx. 15 cm from other objects.
The frame cutout should measure 69 x 69 mm.
The mounting surface's thickness should be 2 to 5 mm.
Version 07/10
3.
Connect the measurement device to the voltage source (230 V/AC) and the consumer load to be measured
(LOAD) according to the following illustration. The supply wire should have a cross-section of 1.5 mm
The consumer load to be measured is powered via the measurement device.
4.
Re-attach the mounting brackets onto the measurement device and fasten the brackets using the previously
loosened screws. Now, the measurement device is installed in the required position.
5.
The product is not equipped with a switch as a disconnecting device from the mains. During installation a
switch or circuit-breaker must be included in the circuit. It must be in close proximity to the equipment and
within easy reach of the operator. It must be marked as the disconnecting device for the equipment.
5.
OPERATION
The measurement device offers four different modes. Each of these modes displays three different
measurement readings.
Press the 'MODE' button to access the next mode.
Within modes 1 to 3, press the 'MIN/MAX/AVG' button to toggle between display of actual measured values
(NORM), MIN/MAX values and average values (AVG).
If you press no button for ten seconds while in modes 1 to 3, the actual measurement values (NORM) will
be automatically displayed.

Reset data
Reset the minimum, maximum and average values for modes 1, 2 and 3 as follows:
1.
First, select one of the three modes and then the measurement value displayed (MIN, MAX or AVG) which
you would like to delete.
2.
Press and hold the ‚MIN/MAX/AVG' button for at least three seconds.
3.
The display will now show horizontal bars instead of measurement values. This shows the measurement
value displayed has been deleted.
Reset the data from mode 4, as well as the MIN, MAX and average values of modes 1, 2 and 3 by pressing and
holding the ‚MODE' button for at least five seconds (Master Reset).
6.
