• to use the stopfor™ fall-arrester in a highly corrosive
or explosive atmosphere.
• to use the stopfor™ fall-arrester outside the
temperature range specified in this manual.
• to use the stopfor™ fall-arrester if the fall clearance is
not sufficient with respect to a falling person.
• to use the stopfor™ fall-arrester if any obstacle is
located along the fall path or on the swinging path
when used in a horizontal configuration.
• to use the stopfor™ fall-arrester if you are not in good
physical condition.
• to use the stopfor™ fall-arrester if you are pregnant.
• to use the stopfor™ fall-arrester if the safety function
of any of the associated items is affected by the safety
function of another item or may interfere with it.
• to use the stopfor™ fall-arrester to secure a mate-
rial's load.
• to connect the belay device of the stopfor™ fall arrest
device to a structural anchor point with a considered
resistance of 12 kN or less,
• to use the stopfor™ fall-arrester lanyard as a means
of slinging.
• to interfere with the alignment of the stopfor™ fall-
arrester with respect to the lanyard.
• to perform any repair or maintenance operations on
the stopfor™ fall-arrester without first having been
trained and qualified, in writing, by Tractel
• to use the stopfor™ fall-arrester if it is not complete, if
it has been dismantled beforehand or if components
have been replaced by any person not unauthorised
by Tractel
.
®
• to use the stopfor™ fall-arrester horizontally if the
radius of the edge (R Min) does not comply with the
technical specifications table above, or if there is
presence of burrs.
• to use the stopfor™ fall-arrester to suspend the
operator or any other load,
• to place several stopfor™ fall-arresters on the same
anchor line,
• to use the stopfor™ fall arrest device on a belay
support whose angle with the vertical is greater than
30° or a maximum displacement of 3 m max. with
respect to the vertical (see figure 6.1),
• to use the stopfor™ fall-arrester in a horizontal
position when there is more than 1.50 m from the
perpendicular to the edge (see figure 6).
• to reassemble the belay support with the stopfor™
fall arrester, thus creating a soft strand,
• to use anchor lines, lanyards and components other
than those compatible with each stopfor™ fall-
arrester model, in accordance with that indicated in
this instructions manual,
• to use the anchor line for any other use than that
of the appropriate stopfor™ fall-arrester model,
including with another type of anti- fall device,
• to use a lanyard, which is longer than 0.3 m for the
stopfor™ B, BF, SL and MSP.
• to use an anchor line or a lanyard showing defects,
knots or visible signs of damage.
Installing before use
Install the stopfor™ on the belay support.
The stopfor™ BF is set up on its rope, it is not
removable.
Connect the stopfor™ to the fall arrest harness
with the connector that is directly positioned on the
stopfor™ or with the connector positioned at the end
of the stopfor™ lanyard.
After which, the following procedure must be adopted:
For stopfor™ B/MSP/K/KS/KSP
• Open the device by turning the mobile flange.
• Tilt the shaft by using the pin to free the anchor line's
passage.
• Insert the anchor line between the clamping axis and
the shaft.
• Close the mobile flange up to the clamping axis
buffer.
• Insert the M10 connector supplied with the stopfor™
in the holes of the two fixed and mobile flanges,
which enables locking of the device.
• The stopfor™ must be positioned on the anchor line
so that the arrow is pointing upwards and the device
.
locked.
®
The stopfor™ will automatically stop the operator
should they fall.
For stopfor™ SL
• grasp the stopfor™ S in the hand,
• raise the lever of the jaw upwards,
• unlock the latch by pivoting it upwards,
• loosen the knurled knob,
• open the pivoting flange,
• the stopfor™ must be positioned on the support
in such a way that the arrow is pointing upwards
when the device is locked. If the arrow is pointing
downwards, the safet catch prevents the device from
closing.
• place the belay support in the flanges,
• close the flanges,
• tighten the knurled knob,
• lock the latch by pivoting it downwards.
In the event of a fall, the stopfor™ automatically stops
the fall.
1. Anchorage to the structure (Fig. 1, page 2, A)
• The anchor line is fixed to the anchoring point with a
buckle (Fig. 1, page 2, C/K) and a connector (Fig. 1,
page 2, J). The anchoring point must be able to resist
a minimum of 12 kN.
