Never use a machine that is faulty. Carry
out the checks, maintenance and service
instructions described in this manual.
Some maintenance and service
measures must be carried out by trained
and qualified specialists.
Always use genuine accessories.
Electrical safety
• Be careful not to run over the power cable. Keep the
power cable away from the cutting attachment. A
damaged power cable may make the machine
become live.
• If the power cable is damaged, you should pull the
plug out of the wall socket immediately, without
touching the damaged part of the power cable.
• If the power cable is damaged the machine must be
brought to an authorized service dealer to be
replaced.
• Always cut in the direction away from the power cable
in order to avoid running over it.
• Connect the machine to an earthed extension cable
intended for outdoor use. The cable should have a live
area of at least 3x1.5 mm

• Always connect the machine through an ground fault
circuit interrupter with personal protection, i.e. an
ground fault circuit interrupter that trips at an ground
fault of 30 mA.
Work area safety
• Objects hitting against the cutting attachment could
be thrown and cause damage to people and objects.
Keep people and animals well away.
• Do not use the machine in bad weather, such as
dense fog, heavy rain, strong wind, intense cold, etc.
• Only use the machine in daylight or in other well-lit
conditions.
• Observe your surroundings to ensure that nothing can
affect your control of the machine.
• Beware of roots, stones, twigs, pits, ditches etc. Tall
grass can hide obstacles.
• On sloping ground you should work along the slope. It
is much easier to work along a slope than it is to work
up and down it.
• Be careful when you are approaching hidden corners
and objects that could block your view.

Work safety
• Only use the machine for the purpose it was intended
for.
• Wear personal protective equipment. See instructions
under the heading "Personal protective equipment".
• Never leave the machine unsupervised with the motor
running.
• The engine must be switched off before moving.
• The muffler gets very hot in use and remains so for a
short time afterwards. Do not touch the muffler if it is
hot! Never use a machine without a muffler, or with a
faulty muffler.
• Stop the cutting immediately if you hit an unknown
object. Shut off the machine. S400B Disconnect the
HT lead from the spark plug. S400E Disconnect the
power plug. Check that the machine is not damaged.
• If heavy vibration occurs, stop the machine. S400B
Disconnect the HT lead from the spark plug. S400E
Disconnect the power plug. Check that the machine is
not damaged.
• Never make adjustments with the engine running.

Basic working techniques

General
Scarification is carried out to renovate and aerate a lawn
that has been damaged by moss, weeds etc. This
treatment should be carried out in the beginning of the
season when the grass is growing well.
• Mow the lawn. Clear it thoroughly to avoid damages to
the mower blades.
• Drive once in one direction and the second time in a
perpendicular direction to achieve the best result.
Working depth
• Lower the handle to lower the cutting equipment.
• The working depth is adjusted with the adjustment
screw and should be set to approx. 4-5 mm. Adjust the
setting after a few hours' drive.
• Raise the cutting equipment when moving the
machine.
