4.2.2. Information on laying the cables

General information
• Use only electrical solar cables rated for the voltages, currents and environmental
conditions (temperature, UV, etc.) expected at the installation site.
• Ensure that you lay all cables with short-circuit protection and ground fault protection.
• Use single-core cables with double or reinforced insulation (in accordance with EN
50618 or equivalent local standard) for the photovotaic-specific application, positive
and the negative pole feeders.
• To ensure short-circuit-proof and ground-fault-proof installation in accordance with
IEC 60364-5-52, the following requirements must be fulfilled:
– Cables must not be installed in the proximity of combustible materials.
– Cables must be accessible.
– Cables must be protected against mechanical damage.
• The wire connecting the AC surge arrester's functional earth to the external
equipotential bonding must have 6 mm² minimum cross-section and must be shorter
than 500 mm (as required by DD CLC/TS 50539-12).
• Do not lay the wires over sharp edges.
CAUTION
The weight of the cables can create mechanical stress to the enclosure.
For this reason, depending on the installation height, a strain relief
underneath the combiner box may be needed. National regulations may
apply for strain relief requirements.
The use of aluminum conductors
Some Weidmüller modular terminals are suitable for the direct connection of solid
round and sector aluminum conductors. In contrast to copper, aluminum exhibits certain
characteristics that must be taken into account when using this material as a conductor
in electrical engineering.
Fur further details please check the Weidmüller catalogue for terminals or
contact your Weidmüller sales representative.
