c) Method Performance

• The accuracy of the measurements depends on factors relating to the overall
testing method which include the pH meter, pH electrode, buffer solution, and
testing procedure.

d) Electrode

• To prevent incorrect readings and damage to the electrode, the measuring
solution should be voltage free.
• Extending the cable may affect the accuracy of readings.
• Do not store the electrode in distilled or deionized water. This will damage the
electrode by causing ions to leach out of the glass bulb.
• To prevent drying out, the tip of the electrode / glass membrane (10) should be
stored in the soaker bottle (11) filled with electrode storage solution.

e) Buffer Solution

• Do not leave buffer solution and samples unattended. They could be swallowed
by children and pets.
• The buffer solutions may cause irritation. Avoid the following types of contact:

Eyes
Skin
Ingestion

Flush with copious amounts of water for at least 15 minutes.
Contact a physician.
Rinse with copious amounts of water. Contact a physician.
Consume 1-2 glasses of water. Call a physician or poison
control.
