Corvette ® C6™
1953 wurde die erste Chevrolet® Corvette® der Weltöffentlichkeit präsentiert.
Mehr als ein halbes Jahrhundert später debütierte das Coupé mit herausnehm-
barem Hardtop als nunmehr sechste Auflage des amerikanischen Sportwagens
zu Jahresbeginn 2004 auf der Detroit Motor Show.
Die Corvette C6 bleibt dem klassischen Technik Konzept treu, das Fahrzeug prä-
sentiert sich aber komplett neu: schwellende Formen sind passé, der charakteri-
stische Knick in der Flanke bleibt bestehen, die C6 wurde aber kürzer und schma-
ler als die C5. Das typische Heck, die gewölbte, sich nach hinten verjüngende
Heckscheibe und die runden Heckleuchten sind aber weiterhin geblieben, um
einen möglichen Identitätsverlust bei überzeugten Corvette Fans zu vermeiden.
Zudem lässt sich zwar eine stilistische Anlehnung an das Vorgängermodell
erkennen, die wenigen Teile gleicher Bauart finden aber in nur einer Hand Platz.
Neu ist auch die Ausrichtung an den europäischen Markt. Bewusst wurde die
Einzelrad aufgehängte C6 auf dem Nürburgring, auf Autobahnen und im deut-
schen Verkehr gestestet. Auch der Stellenwert von Fahrdynamik und
Handlichkeit wurde gezielt in Europa abgefragt. Das Resultat dieser
Bemühungen zeigt sich zum einen sehr deutlich an der Front der Kunststoff
Karosserie. Mit Rücksicht auf die europäische Lichthupennutzung, hielten statt
der seit 40 Jahren bekannten Klappscheinwerfer erstmalig Xenon
Scheinwerfer Einzug.
Zudem bietet das Interieur jetzt höherwertige Materialien, bequeme Sitze und
die bessere Verarbeitung setzen deutliche Akzente. Das Cockpit bietet weiterhin
gewohnt viel Platz, trotz der kleineren Außenabmessungen. Klassische , gut les-
bare Rundinstrumente prägen das Armaturenbrett, die Bedienung bleibt ein-
fach und übersichtlich. Geöffnet und gestartet wird die C6 übrigens per
Knopfdruck, nicht mehr mit Schlüssel.
Wie üblich wird die Corvette von dem legendären Small-Block-Achtzylinder
angetrieben. Von dem Vorfahren aus dem Jahre 1955 sind natürlich nur noch
das technische Layout und somit 2 Ventile pro Zylinder und die zentrale
Nockenwelle geblieben. Der komplett aus Aluminium bestehende V8 heißt nun
LS 2, bietet 5970 ccm Hubraum und eine beachtliche Leistung von 402 PS. Dank
des geringen Gewichtes von 1470 Kilogramm, dem kraftvollen Motor und einer
fast gleichmäßigen Gewichtsverteilung weiß der C6 auch in punkto
Fahreigenschaften und Handling zu überzeugen. Die Beschleunigung von 0 auf
100 km/ h schafft die heckgetriebene Corvette in nur 4,3 Sekunden, die
Höchstgeschwindigkeit liegt bei rund 290 Stundenkilometern. Wegen des aus-
schaltbaren ESP, den Schaltwippen am Lenkrad und der elektronischen
Stoßdämpferregelung „Magnetic Ride Control", die drei Einstellungen erlaubt,
eignet sich die Corvette, die es wahlweise mit Viergang-Automatik oder
Sechsgang-Schaltgetriebe gibt, vom komfortablen Cruisen bis zum sportlichen
Racing. Somit bietet der Sportwagen mehr Leistung, mehr Komfort, besseres
Handling und mehr Spaß als je zuvor. Wieder einmal entstand mit der C6 die
beste Corvette, die es je gegeben hat.

Corvette
The first Chevrolet Corvette was presented to the world public in 1953. Over half
a century later, at the beginning of 2004, the Coupé with removable hard top
was launched as the sixth version of this American sports car at the Detroit
Motor Show. The Corvette C6 remains true to the classical technical concept, but
the car has a completely new appearance: convex curves are out, the characte-
ristic bulge in the side is still there, but the C6 is shorter and slimmer than the
C5. The typical rear with its curved window that tapers to the back and the
round tail lights however have been kept in order to avoid any loss of identity
for committed Corvette fans. It is still possible to discern a stylistic echo of the
previous model, but components of the same type can be counted on one hand.
Alignment with the European market is also new. Of course the C6 with inde-
pendent wheel suspension had already been tested on the Nürburgring, on
motorways and in German traffic. There was also specific demand in Europe for
its driving dynamics and manoeuvrability. The result of all this effort can be very
clearly seen at the front of the plastic bodywork. In order to comply with
European usage with regard to headlamp signalling, instead of the pop-up
headlamps that date back for 40 years, for the first time it has xenon head-
lamps.
The interior now has higher class materials, more comfortable seats and a bet-
ter finish that set a new tone. Despite its smaller dimensions, the cockpit is still
very roomy. Classical, well set-out and easy to read circular instruments give the
dashboard its characteristic stamp, making the car simple to operate. The C6 is
no longer unlocked and started up with a key but at the press of a button.
As usual, this Corvette is driven by the legendary small block eight cylinder engi-
ne. Features that remain from its 1955 predecessors are of course only the tech-
nical layout with 2 valves per cylinder and the central camshaft. The V8 which is
all aluminium is now called the LS 2 and offers 5970 cc with a remarkable capa-
city of 402 bhp. Thanks to a low weight of 1470 kg, a powerful engine and an
almost even weight distribution, the C6 is also a clear winner in terms of driving
characteristics and handling. This rear wheel drive Corvette accelerates from 0
to 100 in just 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of about 290 km/h. As it has ESP
that can be switched off, control stalks on the steering wheel and "Magnetic
Ride Control" electronically adjustable shock absorbers with three settings, the
Corvette, which is available with optional four speed automatic or six speed
manual gear box, is suitable for anything from comfortable cruising to sporty
racing. This sports car therefore offers higher performance, better handling and
more enjoyment than ever before. Once again the new C6 is the best Corvette
ever.
