4. Tool change
TRIBOS polygonal toolholders may only be equipped with an SVP
clamping device.
– When changing the tool or workpiece, always observe the instruc-
tions in the operating manual for the respective clamping system!
– The pressure specifications for the polygonal toolholder are not to
be exceeded while clamping! Otherwise it will become deformed
and unusable!
– The tool must be free of burrs and dirt at the shank.
CAUTION
Always insert the tool up to the minimum clamping depth (L2).
Failure to do so may result in the reduction of permissible transmissi-
ble torque, loss of run-out precision, and damage to the toolholder.
4.1 Permitted shank types
CAUTION
• Only clamp round, smooth cylindrical shanks without reliefs.
• Use actuation keys for clamping.
• Observe the maximum tightening torque, see chapter 7.
Failure to do so may result in a loss of accuracy relating to run-out.
4.2 Special notes concerning tool changes
Observe the maximum pressure specifications on the toolholders!
– Observe the pressure tables, limit speed and projecting length, see
schunk.com/anleitung-tribos-rm
schunk.com/anleitung-tribos-mini
– Before using tools with dimensions that deviate from the data sheet
specifications, calculate the permissible speed of rotation separately.

1. About this manual
This manual contains important information for the safe, correct use of
the product. The manual is an integral part of the product and must be
kept accessible by personnel at all times.
Personnel must have read and understood this manual before begin-
ning any work. The observance of all safety notes in this manual is the
precondition for all safe working.
The illustrations in this manual are intended to provide a basic understan-
ding of the product and may deviate from the actual version.
2. Warranty
The warranty is valid for 24 months beginning on the date of delivery
to the production facility providing that the product is used according
to its intended purpose and in line with the specified regulations
for operation and care. Parts that come in contact with the tool or
machine and wear parts (length-setting screw) are not covered by the
warranty.
3. Safety notes
3.1 Appropriate use
The TRIBOS polygonal toolholder is intended for clamping rotationally
symmetric tools.
– The product may only be used within the limits of its technical data
(see chapter 7).
– The product is designed for industrial use.
3.2 Inappropriate use
The TRIBOS polygonal toolholder is not being used as intended if,
for example:
– the technical data is exceeded during use.
– the product is used with heat shrinking technology.
– If vibration and operating noise increase during operation, check the
toolholder taper for damage.
– Keep the guiding area, thread and flat surface of the toolholder
interface free of dirt. In case of damage, replace the toolholder
immediately.
4.3 Reduction insert SRE
Reduction inserts SRE are required for tool changes in the SVP clam-
ping devices SVP 2, 2D, 3 and 4.
After insertion in the clamping device, always check that the polygonal
toolholder and the reduction insert have been inserted up to the stop.
In order to avoid a loss of function, the wear on the reduction insert
should be a maximum of 0.04 mm.

3.3 Notes on safe operation
– The balancing grade may be modified when using long, protruding
or heavy tools. The extent of this change can only be determined
individually and is the responsibility of the user.
– Additional bore holes, threads or attachments that are not part
of the SCHUNK accessories range may be attached only with the
written permission of SCHUNK GmbH & Co. KG.
– Tools may only be clamped and inserted into a machine by technically
trained staff.
3.4 Notes on particular risks
WARNING
• Only use the TRIBOS polygonal toolholder for internal grinding.
• Take appropriate protective measures to secure the danger zone
of the machine/automated system.
• Observe minimum clamping depth.
• Observe maximum projecting lengths for the given speed limit.
CAUTION
Risk of injury from tools with sharp edges
• Wear protective gloves when changing tools.
5. Care, storage
– Clean the mounting bore and form fit thread before each use.
– To secure the clamping forces, clean the clamping bore during every
tool change with a cleaning agent containing solvents.
– The cleaning of the polygonal toolholder must be adjusted to ambi-
ent conditions. This applies in particular in the case of high clamping
frequency, high operating temperatures and abrasive dirt or dust.
– For storage, lightly oil the entire surface of the polygonal toolholder.
– Repair work is only allowed to be carried out by SCHUNK.
6. Accessories (ordered separately)
– Torque wrench
– Adapter
– Open-end socket wrench
