Software description

This section describes the read/write capabilities of the IBM USB 2.0 Portable
CD-RW drive.
The IBM USB 2.0 Portable CD-RW drive can write to and read from
CD-ReWritable (CD-RW) and CD-Recordable (CD-R) discs, and can read
CD-ROM discs. To use the drive's CD-recording functions, you must install the
included IBM CD-RW Application Software. This software allows you to create
audio and data CDs and to copy CDs. For more information on using the
software, please refer to the user's guide contained on the CD-RW Application
software CD.

Using CD-R and CD-RW media

This section describes the types of media and write speeds used with your
IBM USB 2.0 Portable CD-RW drive.
The drive can write to both CD-R and CD-RW discs. CD-R discs cannot be
erased or overwritten but can be used with standard CD-ROM drives and
audio CD players. CD-RW discs can be erased and rewritten, but can only be
used with newer Multi-Read and CD-RW compatible CD-ROM and DVD-ROM
drives.
The writing speed of the media is indicated on the package of the CD-R/RW
media. When writing, write within the scope of the specified writing speed of
the media used. Although higher speed media can be used, the maximum
write speed is 8X when connected through the USB 2.0 port, and 4X-6X when
connected through USB 1.1 port.
The read and write results of the drive depend upon the quality and
characteristics of the CD-R and CD-RW media used. Poor results may be
obtained with some CD-R and CD-RW suppliers.
Power management functions
(Standby/Hibernate/Suspend/Resume)
This section describes the power management functions for the IBM USB 2.0
Portable CD-RW drive.
v For optimal results, do not use the suspend/standby function while the
drive is in write operation. Data errors might occur.
v Do not connect or disconnect the drive while the computer is in the standby
(suspend) mode. Your computer might become unstable.
