PT control
Dear Patient,
Your doctor has prescribed the
patella correction brace medi PT
control for you. Please read through
these instructions carefully to help
ensure that you fit your brace
correctly.
Indications
• Conservative or operative treatment
of patella luxation in connection with
a slight to medium knee instability
• Lateral misalignment in connection
with a slight to medium knee
instability
• Following lateral release operations
• Retropatellar cartilage surgery

Contraindications

None known to date.
Setting the flexion / extension limits.
Only to be carried out by an
orthopedic technician.
Extension limit wedge:
0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, 45°
Flexion limit wedge :
0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75°, 90°, 120°
Can be immobilised at:
0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, 45°
The medial (inside) and the lateral
(outside) wedge settings must always
be the same.
1. 0° extension wedges are pre-installed
in your knee brace as standard.
They are found in the front aspect of
the brace's hinge.
2. To replace the wedges first loosen the
screws in the hinge cover and take
it off. Open the extension or flexion
screws. Insert the new wedge so that
the letter shown on the hinge plate
points upwards (R or L).
3. To replace the extension wedge first
open the screw and remove the wedge
by pulling it gently out in a forwards
direction. Replacement extension
wedges can be found in the wedge
set marked "E". Slide the new wedge
into the hinge from the front and
screw it tight.
4. The flexion wedges are installed from
the back. Chose the suitable wedge
marked with „F". Insert the wedge so
that the letter shown on the hinge
plate points upwards. Now insert the
screw in the thread and screw it tight.
5. Bend and flex the brace a couple of
times and check that the wedges are
positioned correctly. Finally, secure
the hinge covers.
Important notes
Only change the extension and flexion
limits on instruction from your doctor
or orthotist. In order to prevent
hyper extension, always insert extension
wedges or 0° wedges. The wedges define
the exact excursion of the orthosis. In
difficult soft-tissue conditions, e.g. where
the soft-tissues are under compression,
it may be necessary to insert the larger
wedge to limit the joint movement to the
desired excursion. In addition, make sure
that the orthosis hinges are correctly
positioned: the middles of the hinges
should be level with the upper border of
the patella. The hinge must lie behind
the midline of the leg.
Fitting instructions
• Open all the straps.
• Pull the brace up the affected leg and
flex your knee to 30°. Position the
hinges so that the centres of the hinges
(extension wedges) are on a level
with the top edge of the kneecap and
ensure that the kneecap is exactly in
the centre of the patella recess.
