Listen and watch two or three times. Now YOU try!
Place your right hand in the position shown in the diagram.
Press the Teach
button and then the
Notes key followed by
the Play button. The first note to play will be shown in red on the virtual keyboard.
Follow the notes starting to play with the thumb (1) on middle C, (this is the name given
to the white key in the centre of your keyboard to the left of the two black keys), then the
second third, fourth and fifth fingers and back again.
You will notice a blue note appears on the left side of the music stave each time you play
a note, the blue note is the actual note you have played. If you have played the wrong
note 'teach mode' will wait for you, an arrow above the note will indicate whether you
need to play a lower note or a higher note. Teach mode will also give you a score after
playing each tune!
When you feel confident that you know the melody try to play along with the backing
band. Press the Backing button
followed by the Play button.
Remember you can alter the speed of the tune by clicking on the Tempo
button to reduce or increase the speed .
Now let's try a different melody. Load teacher2.mid This is what you will see on the
screen
Press the Recital button and the Play button again and listen to the new file. This time
we will try a rhythm test. After listening to the melody a few times press the 'Teach'
button followed by the Rhythm button then
the 'play' button. In 'rhythm
mode' you don't need to worry about the notes,
just tap out the rhythm on
any note until you get it right. (The arrows on the screen tell you if you are playing 'too
late' or 'too early') Now try again using the notes mode, and finally notes and rhythm.
These basic instructions will help you to play a tune almost right away. For more in
depth instructions on the various modes press F1 or click Contents from the Help
