3.5. Digital Audio
In addition to MIDI, Evolution Sound Studio can record and playback Digital Audio
which can be used to make your own CDs (with appropriate hardware and software).
4 Stereo Audio tracks are provided. In order to record Audio, you will need your own
microphone or line-level Audio source to connect to your sound card.
The main difference between Audio and MIDI is that Audio records the actual sound
and this is played back rather than just the note information so Audio generally has a
more realistic feel than MIDI, and is ideal for recording vocals and other 'human'
sounds (Note: Audio files are much larger than MIDI files).
1.
Recording Audio in Sound Studio is very similar to recording MIDI – all you
have to do is to select one of the Audio Tracks for recording (by clicking its Rec
button), and the Audio Input monitor will appear. This gives a visual indication
of the level of Audio signal coming into your sound card.
Make sure that you have selected the correct input to the sound card in Windows. You
do this by double clicking on the Speaker icon on the task bar, then from the options
menu, select Properties, click the Recording button and click OK. You will then see
the sound card's available inputs. Click the Select tick box by the one that you want
to use. In this way you should be able to record from the sound card's microphone
input, line input or maybe from CD. The inputs available are dependent on each
individual sound card.
2.
If you can see a signal being registered on the Audio Input Monitor, then you can
record the signal by hitting the Record button on the Transport bar in the same
way as for a MIDI Track.
3.
When you have finished, you can then press Stop, and you will be presented with
the message Do you want to Keep the Recording? If you press Yes, your
recording will appear as a red waveform on the Audio Track. (If you press No,
the recording will be discarded.)
4.
Once the recording is complete, you should now be able to play your entire song
– Chords, Melody and Audio – from beginning to end.
This is just an introduction to Sound Studio. There are many other useful features
available within the software to help with the production of your music. More
information can be found in the Sound Studio online help, which can be accessed by
pressing [F1].
4. Using Music Teacher
Here is a keyboard. The right side will not be active with the MK-149 keyboard.
