1. Make sure that the selector switch on the underside of the MK-261 is set in the MIDI
position.
2. Connect the MK-261 to your PC using the supplied cable. The 15pin D-connector on
the cable should connect to your PC's sound card's Game/Joystick port, and the round
5pin plug connects to the MIDI OUT socket on the back of the MK-261.
It is also possible to connect the MK-261 to a Mac or to a PC using a serial cable (not
supplied) connected to the MK-261's COMPUTER socket (for more information, see
below items 6 & 7).
1d. Connecting the MK-261 using external power supply (not supplied)
The MK-261 does not have to be connected to a PC via the supplied self-powered
cable. It can also be connected simply to any other MIDI hardware (e.g. a MIDI
module) using a standard MIDI cable (not supplied). When the MK-261 is being used
in this way, you will also need a power supply (not supplied) to power the keyboard.
2. Installing the PC software
The supplied software should only be installed onto either Windows 95 and above or
Windows NT4.0 and above.
To install the software, insert the supplied CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. The
installation process will begin automatically.
If your PC CDROM does not autorun, the installation can be started by selecting Run...
from the Windows Start Menu, and entering d:\setup.exe where d is the letter of your
CD-ROM drive.
Once the installation has commenced, the on-screen dialogue boxes will guide you
through the software installation process.
3. Using Sound Studio
Sound Studio is a program for you to make music on your PC. It combines all the
advantages of a high quality home keyboard and a fully featured multi-track Audio and
Music recording suite.
Once the software is successfully installed run Sound Studio by selecting it from your
Windows Start menu (it's in the Sound Studio folder under Programs). When the
software starts, you will see the Evolution Virtual Keyboard.
