Using the Handcrank HC150A
Note: Due to the effort required to maintain an appropriate pump speed, having additional personnel available
to operate the handcrank is recommended.
1. Inspect the handcrank visually and functionally.
2. Clamp the arterial and venous lines.
3. Attach and secure the handcrank using preferred mounting option (Figure 3).
4. Remove the centrifugal blood pump from the pump motor.
5. Attach the centrifugal blood pump to the handcrank receptacle.
6. Pull out the gripping bar so that it is perpendicular to the handle.
7. Turn the handle in the direction of the arrows on the handcrank.
Note: If the handle is turned in the opposite direction, the centrifugal blood pump still pumps fluid
through the outlet, but the efficiency is reduced, and the speed display does not illuminate.
8. Turn the handle at a rate that overcomes the system resistance, unclamp the arterial and venous lines,
and maintain an appropriate handle rotation speed, as indicated on the speed display.
Note: Rotating the handcrank 1 rpm is equivalent to 25 centrifugal blood pump rpm. (Example:
Rotating the handle 88 rpm is equivalent to 2200 centrifugal blood pump rpm.)
