1.1 Camera ball
1 Cable "VIDEO1" to "VIDEO4" for transmitting the
video signals of camera modules 1 – 4:
Connection to the four 2-pole jacks "VIDEO
(FROM CAMERA)" (7) of the connection box
2 Power supply cable "POWER":
Connection to the 2-pole jack "POWER (TO
CAMERA)" (6) of the connection box
3 Ceiling bracket for mounting the camera ball
4 One of four "eyeballs" of the camera ball (semi-
spherical bracket in which a camera module is
fixed); it can vertically be adjusted to change the
viewing direction of the camera.
1.2 Connection box (front side and rear side)
5 Low voltage jack for the connection of the power
supply (12 V /500 mA);
centre contact = positive pole, dimensions of the
required plug: 5.5/2.1 mm (Ø outside/inside)
6 2-pole jack "POWER (TO CAMERA)" for the
connection of the cable "POWER" (2) of the cam-
era ball
7 2-pole jacks "VIDEO (FROM CAMERA)" 1 – 4 for
the connection of the cables "VIDEO1" to
"VIDEO4" (1) of the camera ball
8 BNC video outputs "VIDEO1" to "VIDEO4" for the
connection to the four video inputs of the following
unit (e. g. monitor, camera switcher)
9 Fixing clips for mounting the connection box
2 Applications
The camera ball for ceiling mounting is especially
designed for the use in CCTV systems and is suitable
for monitoring sales halls, event centres, workshops,
etc. It consists of four camera modules with fixed
focus lenses built into a ball housing. The cameras are
suitable for infrared and can be vertically adjusted.
Mounting screws as well as a connection box are sup-
plied with the unit.
3 Safety Notes
The camera ball and the connection box correspond
to the directive 89/336/EEC for electromagnetic com-
patibility.
The camera and the connection box are suitable for
indoor use only. Protect them against dust, humidity,
and extreme temperatures (admissible ambient
temperature range -10 °C to +50 °C).
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, never chemi-
cals, strong detergents, or water.
Do not touch the lenses of the lens assembly with
your fingers and for their cleaning only use special
detergents for optical lenses.
6
If the camera or the connection box are used for
purposes other than originally intended, if they are
not correctly connected, or not repaired in an expert
way, there is no liability for possible damage.
If the camera and the connection box are to be put
out of operation definitively, take them to a local
recycling plant for disposal which is not harmful to
the environment.
4 Installation
1) Drill a hole for the inlet of the five cables of the cam-
era ball (hole diameter 10 mm min.) at the desired
mounting place. Pull the cables through the hole and
mount the camera ball with the four supplied longer
screws via the ceiling bracket (3) to the ceiling.
2) Connect the five cables of the camera ball to the
2-pole jacks of the connection box:
the four video cables "VIDEO1" to "VIDEO4" (1)
to the corresponding four jacks "VIDEO (FROM
CAMERA)" (7).
the power supply cable "POWER" (2) to the jack
"POWER (TO CAMERA)" (6).
3) Mount the connection box via the fixing clips (9)
with the two supplied shorter screws.
4) The video signals of the cameras are present at the
BNC output jacks "VIDEO1" to "VIDEO4" (8) of the
connection box. Connect the outputs to four video
inputs of the following unit (e. g. monitor, camera
switcher).
5) Connect a regulated power supply unit with an out-
put voltage of 12 V
a minimum (e. g. the power supply unit PSS-1206
of MONACOR) to the jack "DC12V" (5). A plug of
5.5/2.1 mm (outside/inside diameter) is required.
The positive pole must be at the inside contact.
5 Setting into Operation
Connect the power supply unit to a mains socket
(230 V~/50 Hz). After applying the supply voltage the
camera ball is ready for operation. The four "eyeballs"
(4) of the camera ball can be inclined and thus be
adjusted to the monitoring area as desired.
6 Exchange of the lenses
To change the monitoring area, the lenses inserted can
be exchanged by the following lenses of MONACOR:
– VML-6022 (focal length 6 mm, aperture angle 60°)
– VML-8020 (focal length 8 mm, aperture angle 39°)
– VML-1220 (focal length 12 mm, aperture angle 26°)
1) Screw off the four recessed screws of the upper ball
half. Open the housing carefully.
2) Pull off the plug connection at the PCB of the re-
spective camera module and take off the "eyeball",
in which the camera module is fixed, together with
its bracket from the housing.
3) Screw off the PCB of the camera module from its
bracket and remove it.
