7.4 Paint and compressed air regulation of
the airbrush spray gun (Fig. 4)
The airbrush spray gun has a "double action"
control lever (a). If you press the lever the air
flow rate will increase. If you pull the lever
backwards the paint delivery rate will incre-
ase. This enables you to change the air and
paint volumes simultaneously.
End the paint application by reducing the
paint volume without reducing the air flow rate
(in other words press the control lever down-
wards and at the same time slide it back to its
initial position). This will purge the inside of
the spray gun with air.
7.5 Painting tests and practice work
Before you paint the actual workpiece you
should check that the pressure setting on the
compressor and the air and paint regulation
of the spray gun are correct by carrying out a
painting test on a piece of scrap material.
The coverage and drying characteristics of
the paint can also be observed on the scrap
material and this will help you to plan the work
on the final workpiece, particularly if you are
inexperienced.
Before you start your work, estimate whether
the total paint volume you have available will
be sufficient for your workpiece surface area.
Regular practice will enable you to learn and
become familiar with certain standard skills,
for example lines with sharp outlines, lines
with matt outlines, dots with sharp outlines,
dots with matt outlines, etc. Low cost paints
can be used for this practice work.
7.6 Paint application (Fig. 6-7)
Connect the paint cup (18) or the glass cup
(15) to the connection (b) on the gun.
Hold the gun (12) perpendicular to the sur-
face to ensure an even application and guide
the gun parallel to the surface.
Increase the distance between the spray gun
and the surface for non-sharp outlines and
reduce this distance for sharper outlines.
7.7 Cleaning when you change the paint or
stop for a break (Fig. 4, 9)
The spray gun must be cleaned when you
want to change the paint or stop for a break.
Please note that the paint on the needle cap
(d) will dry at a similar rate to that on the
workpiece, even during short breaks.
Empty the paint cup and spray out the remai-
ning paint.

Clean the paint cup using suitable cleaning
fluid and a brush.
Refill the paint cup with cleaning fluid and
spray empty until no more paint residues are
rinsed out of the spray gun.
Cover the nozzle cap (c), for example with a
cloth, and then spray cleaning solution so that
the needle cap (d) too is cleaned by backrin-
sing.
For short breaks it is also possible to use a
different paint cup with cleaning fluid as an
alternative.
Before you start painting again with the new
paint, check that it can be sprayed without
being contaminated with the previous paint.
8. Cleaning, maintenance, storage
and ordering of spare parts
m
Important.
Pull out the power plug before doing any
cleaning and maintenance work on the
equipment.
m
Important.
Wait until the compressor has completely
cooled down. Risk of burns!
8.1 Cleaning
Keep the safety devices free of dirt and dust
as far as possible. Wipe the equipment with a
clean cloth or blow it down with compressed
air at low pressure.
We recommend that you clean the equipment
immediately after you use it.
Clean the equipment regularly with a damp
cloth and some soft soap. Do not use
cleaning agents or solvents; these may be ag-
gressive to the plastic parts in the equipment.
Ensure that no water can get into the interior
of the equipment.
You must disconnect the hose and any
spraying tools from the compressor before
cleaning. Do not clean the compressor with
water, solvents or the like.
Clean the spray gun after every use (as de-
scribed in 7.7).
Unscrew the nozzle cap (c) and remove the
needle cap (d) using the wrench (17).
Clean the nozzle cap and needle cap and
then fit them again following the above inst-
ructions in reverse.
