Die Lokomotive der Reihe G 1204 wurde Anfang der
90er-Jahren von der Maschinenbau GmbH Kiel für
die Firma „Eisenbahn und Häfen" (EH) entwickelt
und in größerer Zahl gebaut. Basis war die bewährte
Konstruktion der Reihe G 1203 aus den 80er-Jahren.
Die an die EH gelieferten Modelle sind mit einem
CAT-Dieselmotor mit einer Leistung von 1120 kW
ausgestattet, der eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von
60 km/h ermöglicht. Spätere Modelle der Reihe 1204,
die an andere Bahngesellschaften im In- und Aus-
land geliefert wurden, besitzen Motoren von MTU
mit einer Leistung von 1180 kW, die für eine Höchst-
geschwindigkeit von 80 km/h oder 100 km/h aus-
gelegt sind. Insgesamt sind 33 Lokomotiven von
dieser Lokomotivreihe entstanden, von denen über
ein Drittel für die Firma EH produziert wurden. Diese
Modelle wurden bei der EH unter den Nummern 521
bis 528 und 531 bis 534 eingereiht und sind auf
DB-Strecken genauso wie auf dem 546 km um-
fassenden Privatnetz der EH zu Hause.

Information about the Prototype
The class G 1204 locomotive was developed at the
beginning of the 1990s by the firm Maschinenbau
GmbH Kiel for the firm "Eisenbahn und Häfen" (EH)
and was built in large numbers. The basis for this lo-
comotive was the proven design for the class G 1203
from the 1980s. The models delivered to the firm EH
were equipped with a CAT diesel motor with a power
output of 1,120 kilowatts or 1,502 horsepower that
enabled a maximum speed of 60 km/h or 38 mph.
Later models of the class 1204 that were delivered
to other railroads both domestic and abroad had
motors supplied by MTU with a power output of
1,180 kilowatts or 1,582 horsepower that were de-
signed for a maximum speed of 80 km/h / 50 mph
or 100 km/h / 62 mph. A total of 33 locomotives in
this class were built, of which over a third were built
for the firm EH. These models were designated by
EH with the road numbers 521 through 528 and 531
through 534 and are at home on DB lines as well as
on the 546 kilometer / 341 mile long private network
for EH.
