Mit der ab 1927 in Dienst gestellten Elektrolokomotive
der Baureihe E 75 besaß die Deutsche Reichsbahn
eine Personenzuglokomotive, die mit einer Höchst-
geschwindigkeit von 70 km/h und einer maximalen
Leistung von 1880 kW die an sie gestellten Anforde-
rungen erfüllte. Während die erste Bauserie in Süd-
deutschland eingesetzt wurde, war die zweite Serie
für den Bereich Halle / Leipzig vorgesehen.
Die Konstruktion dieser Lok besteht aus einem
durchgehenden Hauptrahmen, in dem zwei Trieb-
werksgruppen mit jeweils einem 20-poligen Motor
angeordnet sind. Das äußerlich markante Detail
des Antriebs stellt der Stangenantrieb der Bauart
Winterthur dar.
Kurz vor Kriegsende wurden alle Modelle in Bayern
zusammengezogen, sodass 22 Modelle dieser Bau-
reihe von der DB übernommen werden konnten.
Selbst 1972 waren die letzten Modelle dieser Baureihe
noch im regulären DB-Einsatz.

Information About the Prototype
When the class E 75 electric locomotive was placed
into service starting in 1927, the German State Rail-
road possessed a passenger locomotive that fulfilled
the requirements set for it of a maximum speed
of 70 km/h or 44 mph and a maximum output of
1,880 kilowatts or 2,521 hp. While the first production
run of this locomotive was used in Southern Germany,
the second series was planned for the Halle / Leipzig
area.
The design of this locomotive consists of a con-
tinuous main frame in which two groups of driving
wheels are arranged, each with a 20-pole motor.
The Winterthur design side rod drive is the most
striking external detail of the locomotive's drive system.
Shortly before the end of the war all of the class E 75
units were sent to Bavaria so that the DB acquired
22 of this class. The last models of this class were
still in regular DB service as late as 1972.
