5 Pre-use checks:

 Caution! Before connecting to the circuit to be tested,
carry out the following checks;

5-1 Battery check

When the battery voltage falls below 7.0V, the instrument will
not give reliable or accurate indications. Carry out the following
procedure to check there is sufficient energy in the battery
before beginning tests.
a) Remove the instrument leads.
b) Set the function selector switches to the 20 Ω and " Ω "
positions.
c) Check the "Low Battery" indicator does not appear in the
top left corner of the display. If it does, replace the batteries.
5-2 Test leads check
a) Connect the test leads to the instrument, set the switches to
the 20Ω and Ω positions and press and turn the test button
to lock it down.
b) Connect the leads together and ensure the display indicates
less than 2Ω and the overrange indicator "OR" does not
appear. If greater than 2Ω is displayed and the OR indicator
appears, the leads may be open circuit or the fuse may
have blown; check and rectify the cause before proceeding
further.
c) Release the test button after the check is complete.

6 Insulation resistance tests

Note: While conducting insulation resistance tests, the LCD will
display the value of insulation resistance. The bar graph will
represent the DC test voltage present across the ends of
the test leads. This will verify the circuit is being stressed by
the full DC test voltage selected (250V, 500V or 1000V).
For circuits that have a large intrinsic capacitance, the
bar graph will rise more slowly than for those with a low
capacitance.
6.1 Rotate the function switch to select the required test
voltage (250V, 500V or 1000V).
6.2 Rotate the range switch to select the required resistance
range (20M, 200M or 2000M).
6.3 Connect the test leads to the instrument and to the circuit
to be tested.
 Warning! Before proceeding, ensure the live circuit warning
indicator is not flashing in the display and the buzzer does not
sound. If the circuit is live, do not continue the test
 Warning! Do not touch the circuit under test whilst the
insulation test is in progress.
 Warning! To ensure the circuit under test is fully
discharged after the test, always release the test button before
disconnecting the test leads from the circuit.
 Caution! Do not turn the test voltage range switch during
insulation testing while the test button is depressed, as this
may damage the instrument.
