5. Installing the sound card in your PC

If you have no specialist knowledge of installation procedures, please
arrange for the installation to be carried out by SUITABLY QUALIFIED
PERSONNEL or a suitable specialist shop.
Incorrect installation will damage the sound card, your computer and
all connected devices.
Proceed with caution. DANGER!
Switch off the computer in which the sound card is to be installed
and all connected devices. Isolate all devices from mains voltage by
pulling out the mains power plug! Switching off using the mains pow-
er switch is not enough.
• Unscrew the housing of your computer and remove it with care.
• Remove a slot plate (or your old sound card if you have one) and plug the sound
card into a free PCI plug-in station. Screw it securely in place. Check that the
sound card is correctly located in the slot.
• Connect the digital adapter (if you will be using it) to the sound card. Make certain
the connection is made correctly as marked, pin 1 to the cable and sound card.
Remove the slot plate next to the sound card and screw in the digital adapter there
securely.
• Retighten the screws on the computer housing.
• Connect the 5.1 loudspeaker set with the 3 outputs of the sound card – see Sec-
tion 4.
• Reconnect your computer and monitor to mains voltage and switch on all devices.

• If your computer does not start correctly, switch it off again immediately and check
all settings and cable connections.
Disconnect the power plug from the power socket again before opening
the PC case.

6. Driver installation

The first time Windows is started after the sound card is installed, Windows detects
it automatically with hardware detection.
As of the date these instructions were printed, the driver required for installation with
Windows 95/98/98SE were on the CD in the "W95-98\drv" directory. The driver for
Windows ME was in "W2K-ME\drv".
However, this could change for later versions of the driver CD.
Please comply with all Windows instructions.
Restart Windows after the installation is complete. Otherwise the sound card may
not function properly.

7. Handling

Do not use the product immediately after it is taken from a cold environment to a
warm environment. The condensation produced may destroy the product.
First allow the PC in which the sound card is installed and the loud-
speaker set to reach room temperature before then placing the PC
and the loudspeaker set in operation. This may take several hours.
Ensure that the insulation of the entire product is neither damaged nor destroyed.
Live components may be exposed when covers are opened and/or components
(e.g. housing) are removed. The connection points may also be live. The switch box
must be disconnected from mains voltage and all other connectors must be
unplugged before the loudspeaker set is connected or maintenance, servicing, or
replacement of components or subassemblies are carried out. Maintenance and
repair must always be carried out by SUITABLY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL who are
familiar with the hazards involved and with the relevant regulations.
