• Soundkarte
• Digitaladapter mit Flachbandkabel
• CD mit Treiber/Software
• Bedienungsanleitung
Merkmale
• 5.1-Analog-Ausgang (Front/Rear/Center/Subwoofer)
Onboard-Joystickport
des Motherboards), so schalten Sie ihn ab. In einem PC darf es nur einen
Joystickport geben!
gen Windows-Versionen evtl. ändern.
• Kontrollieren Sie die Belegung des Audiokabels Ihres CD-ROMs bzw. CD-Brenners
(R=rechtes Audiosignal, L=linkes Audiosignal, G=Masse/GND).

PCI-Sound Card with Digital Adapter
Item-No. 99 39 11
Prescribed Use
The product is intended for installation in a PC-compatible computer and there
serves for audio playback or recording of analog and digital audio signals (not 5.1
Digital!)
Scope of Supply
• Sound card
• Digital adapter with flat band cable
• CD with driver/software
• Operating instructions
Features
• 5.1 analog output (front/rear/center/subwoofer)
• Digital input/output (optical/coaxial)
Connections and Configuration
Audio Outputs
At the three audio outputs ("Front-SPK", "Rear-SPK", "Center/Bass") a 5.1 loud-
speaker set with analog input can be connected.
The assignment of the "Center/Bass" connection can be interchanged depending on
the 5.1 loudspeaker set used:
Internal Connections
Both CD audio inputs (J3/J4) are switched parallel. Connecting both the audio out-
puts of e.g. a CD-ROM and a DC burner therefore is not possible. In this case, addi-
tionally use the AUX output (J6). A digital input (J11) is provided for e.g. a CD-ROM
drive. The J22 connection serves to connect the digital adapter. ( One pin is miss-
ing; this is no "manufacturing defect", but prevents the cable of the digital adapter
from being attached incorrectly.)
Observe the correct assignment of the audio cables!
Installation
If you do not command the special know-how for installation, leave
the installation to a specialist or specialised workshop!
Improper installation damages the sound card as well as your com-
puter and all connected devices.

Warning! Danger of Life!
Switch off the computer, where you intend to install the sound card
and all connected devices and separate all devices from the mains
voltage. Unplug the mains plug! Switching off using the On/Off switch
is not sufficient!
• Unscrew the housing of your computer and carefully remove the housing cover.
www.conrad.de
• Remove a slot plate (or your old sound card) and plug the sound card into a free
PCI slot and screw it in. Check whether the sound card correctly fits into the slot.
Version 04/02
°
• Connect the digital adapter (if you want to use it) with the sound card; observe the
correct connection: pin 1 is marked on the cable and the sound card! Remove a
slot plate next to the sound card and screw the digital adapter in there.
• Connect any further devices with the internal connections of the sound card, e.g.
the audio output of the DC-ROM drive.
• Replace the housing cover and screw it up again.
• Now connect your PC loudspeakers to the sound card outputs.
• Reconnect your computer and monitor to the mains voltage and switch on all
devices.
• If your computer does not start correctly, switch it off again immediately and check
all settings and cable connections.
Before opening the PC anew, the PC has to be separated from the mains voltage
again (see above!).
Driver Installation
Place the supplied data carrier into the corresponding drive and follow all Windows
instructions.
At the time of printing these operating instructions the driver was to be found in the
"CMedia/CMI8738-6Ch" directory, and there in the sub-directories for the respec-
tive Windows version. This may change for later driver CD versions.
Restart Windows upon finishing the installation. Otherwise the sound card may not
function correctly.
Tips & Notes
• If there already exists a joystick port in your PC (e.g. onboard joystick port of the
motherboard), switch it off. There may only be one joystick port in a PC!
Each up-to-date joystick port supports two joysticks; for connecting two joysticks
to your PC a so-called Y-adapter is necessary.
The individual joystick must, however, not exceed the functionality of "up/down",
"left/right" and two fire-buttons.
If your joystick has e.g. four fire buttons or an additional throttle control that can
not be switched off, no Y cable can be used. The operation of a second joystick is
only possible with a so-called joystick changeover switch. Using two joysticks at
a time, however, is not possible here!
• Simultaneous operation of two sound cards is not normally possible (e.g. onboard
sound card and the sound card supplied here).
=Center,
=Subwoofer
• Check the settings in the volume control. Some of the inputs/outputs may be deac-
tivated by default (e.g. the microphone input).
=Subwoofer,
=Center
• For newer driver CDs the path to the drivers (see above) "CMedia/CMI8738-6Ch"
and the sub-directories contained may change for the respective Windows ver-
sions.
• Check the assignment of the audio cable of your CD-ROM and your CD burner
respectively (R=right audio signal, L=left audio signal, G=mass/GND).
• The digital input can only process a normal (PCM) digital signal as it is supplied
e.g. by a CD player or a MD player. Recording a digital 5.1 signals e.g. from a DVD
player is not possible!
• The digital output can only be used, if you adjust the loudspeaker type to "stereo
loudspeaker" or "headphones" in the settings of the sound card. If a 5.1 loud-
speaker system is chosen for sound output, the digital output is switched off!
• Depending on the assignment of the "Center/Bass" analog input of your analog 5.1
loudspeaker set you can interchange the audio signal with the two "J15" jumpers.
