First Time Operation
CAUTION
We recommend formatting the disk after receiving confirmation from the
system administrator. The second hard disk may be formatted and the
partition may be created with the preferences of the user.
Depending on the format method (file system), you may be unable to access
the second hard disk when it is installed in a model with another version of Windows.
Proceed with caution so as not to format another drive by accident.
The contents of a drive are completely erased by formatting.
Windows 98
1 Turn your computer on.
2 At start up, press Ctrl to display the startup menu.
3 Select [Command prompt only].
4 Input the following command.

FDISK Enter
5 The message [Do you wish to enable large disk support (Y/N) ..... ?] will be dis-
played. Press Y and then press Enter .
6 When [FDISK Options] is displayed, enter 5 for [5. Change current fixed disk drive]
and then press Enter .
7 When [Change Current Fixed Disk Drive] is displayed, enter 2 for [Enter Fixed
Disk Drive Number (1-2)] and then press Enter .
8 When [FDISK Options] is displayed, enter 1 for [1. Create DOS partition or Logical DOS
Drive] and then press Enter .
9 When [Create DOS Partition or Logical DOS Drive] is displayed, enter 1 for [1.
Create Primary DOS Partition] and then press Enter .
10 When [Create Primary DOS Partition] is displayed, follow the on-screen instructions.
11 An indication to restart the computer will be displayed. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete .
The computer will restart.
12 Select [My Computer].
13 Click [D:] (or the drive letter of a newly created drive) with the right button
and select [Format].
14 Select [Full] for [Format type] and then select [Start].
15 At the confirmation message, select [OK].
Follow the on-screen instructions.
16 When the operation completes, be sure to select [Start] - [Shut Down] and restart
the computer before using the second hard disk.
17 If necessary, run SCANDISK to check the hard disk.
Windows NT
1 Turn your computer on.
Be sure to log on with the authority of an administrator.
2 Select [Disk Administrator] in [Start] - [Programs] - [Administrative Tools (Common)]
If the message [Configuration information about the missing disk(s) will be
retained] is displayed, select [OK].
3 The message [System configuration will now be updated] will be displayed. Select [OK].
If [Confirm] is displayed, select [Yes].
4 When [Disk Administrator] is displayed, click [Disk 1] with the right button and
then select [Create].
