Before you open the housing to check, remember to switch off all
devices. Isolate them from mains voltage and pull out the mains
power plug (see above).

6. Handling

Do not switch on the power supply unit (or the computer in which the power supply
unit is installed) immediately after it is taken from a cold environment to a warm envi-
ronment. Under unfavourable conditions, the condensation produced could destroy
the power supply unit.
Let the switched-off power supply unit (and computer in which the power sup-
ply unit is installed) reach room temperature first. This may take several hours.
Ensure that the power supply unit has adequate ventilation during use. Do not place
your computer close to radiators and ensure that there is a suitable clearance
between the back of the computer and walls or items of furniture.
The PC housing with installed PC power supply unit must be set up in a location with
adequate air circulation
Do not insert any object, e.g. paper clip, ballpoint pen, pin, needle
or knitting needle etc. in ventilation slits or holes in devices. Not
only would this interfere with the operation of the fan, touching
electric wires and connection points can cause fatal injury.
When you set up your computer make sure that the mains power cable is neither
kinked nor pinched.

7. Maintenance and cleaning

Check the technical safety of the power supply unit, e.g. damage to the mains pow-
er cable or the housing, at regular intervals.
When it has to be accepted that safe operation is no longer possible, the power sup-
ply unit must be put out of service and precautions must be taken to ensure that it is
not used unintentionally. Unplug the mains power plug from the mains socket-outlet!
It must be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if
- the device shows signs of visible damage,
22
- the device no longer operates and
- has been stored for long periods under unfavourable conditions or
- has been subjected to considerable stress in transit.
The safety instructions below must be noted before the device is cleaned or
maintained:
None of the components inside the device are to be maintained by the
user.
Live components may be exposed when covers are opened or com-
ponents are removed.
Before cleaning, maintenance or servicing work is carried out, the
device must be disconnected from all voltage sources. The main pow-
er plug must be pulled out. Switching off using the mains power switch
is not enough.
Capacitors in the device may still be charged, even if the device has
been disconnected from all voltage sources.
Repair work must always be carried out by suitably qualified personnel
who are familiar with the hazards involved and with the relevant regu-
lations.
The device's integral fuse can only be replaced using a special tool.
Therefore do not attempt to change the fuse yourself. Have this done
at a suitable specialist shop.
A dry, lint-free cloth must be used to clean the outside of the housing.
To remove dust that may have formed on the fan vanes or on the fan cover, switch
off the PC power supply unit using the mains power switch. Isolate it from mains
voltage and pull out the mains power plug.
Then use a small vacuum cleaner and narrow, long-haired brush to remove the dust
from the fan cover and the fan.
Do not insert the brush further into the device than the fan vanes, oth-
erwise there would be a risk of a possibly fatal electric shock.
