Operating instructions
Rear view backup colour camera with shutter CE4
Item no. 840449
Intended use
The shutter camera is a high-quality CCD camera which is mounted behind a glass pane in a robust metal
casing with integrated heater. If the camera is not used for a long period of time, it is protected from dirt
and damages by a shutter. Four infrared LEDs are integrated in the housing that turn on automatically via
a light sensor and improve the vision at night. The camera image can be mirrored left/right via a magnetic
drain plug. To operate the camera, a monitor with the PAL system and a cinch video and audio input is also
required, along with diverse installation material.

Safety Instructions
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe these safety
instructions! We do not assume any liability for any consequential damage!
We do not assume any liability for material and personal damage caused by improper
use or non-compliance with the safety instructions. In such cases, the warranty will be
null and void.
• The product must not be modified or converted, as not only the CE approval will become void
but the warranty as well.
• The system components may not be placed under any significant mechanical loads.
• The camera is built according to the German DIN norm in protection class IP69 and is thus
protected against sprayed water. This system construction enables use outside a motor ve-
hicle. To avoid damage to the camera from hose water getting into it, cleaning the camera with
cleaning devices that use pressurised water (steam jet) is not permitted. The warranty will be
void in cases of non-compliance!
• When installing and operating the system, always observe the applicable motor vehicle regu-
lations and road traffic regulations. Get yourself familiarised before driving in a foreign country
whether the mounting, mounting location and operation of the camera is permitted and does
not violate applicable laws or ordinances.
• Modifications to the vehicle which are made necessary through the installation of the system
or other components must always be carried out in such a manner that neither the traffic
safety nor the designed stability of the car is impaired.

• With many vehicles, the MOT will be void if you cut out a section of the sheet metal. Find out
ahead of time from the vehicle manufacturer or a specialist shop.
• No components may be installed within range of the fully-expanded airbag, as this could lead
to injury to the vehicle's occupants in the event of an accident.
• If you are in doubt about where to install the device, consult your specialist workshop.
• Before drilling, make sure that this will not lead to any damage to electric cables, brake leads,
the fuel tank or similar.
• Only the 12V/DC direct current power supply may be used as a voltage source. Never connect
the system to any other power supply.
• Extra care should be taken when starting up the system. Therefore, please follow the opera-
ting instructions carefully.
• Improper mounting and cabling of the camera can lead to damage of the electrical system
of the vehicle, including important computer and operating systems. This could lead to an
accident (e.g. electric shock) or fire, which could result in material damage and/or serious
personal injury. We recommend having the mounting and connection done by a qualified
automotive electrician.
• Wireless devices such as WLAN routers, Bluetooth devices or mobile communication devices
can have a disruptive influence on the operation of the monitor. If this is the case, you will see
rolling lines, blurry images or static images on the monitor.
• Make sure that the connection cables are not pinched or damaged by sharp edges.
• Contact a specialist if you have any doubts about how the system functions, about the safety
aspects or how to connect the system.
• If light falls directly on the camera, the result may be that the surroundings are not shown
clearly. In fluorescent light, the monitor may flicker.
• Dirt, rain or snow can limit the function of the camera.
• The use of the camera as a reverse driving video system does make backing into a parking
space easier, but it does not release you from your obligation to be vigilant. Please observe
the road traffic regulations (StV0), (German road traffic regulations). The operation at a speed
of more than 3 km/h is at your own risk and not recommended. Otherwise there is a very great
danger of an accident.
• A reverse driving system should increase safety and protection. It is not intended to replace
other safe driving habits. Precise control and looking around before backing up is recommen-
ded. This applies especially in the vicinity of pedestrians or in areas with traffic that crosses
the direction of reverse travel as well as for use in darkness or glaring light. The device's
method of operation may mean that certain obstacles are not detected, or are not reliably
detected.
• Colours of the surroundings that are shown on the monitor - especially in darkness - deviate
from the actual colours of the surroundings.
• Be sure to follow the safety instructions of the tool manufacturer when using tools to install
your system.
• When installing the system, take into consideration the risk of accident which can arise from
components being torn away in the event of an accident. Therefore, you should secure each
component in a place where it will not pose a risk to passengers.
• The camera must not obstruct the vehicle's rear lights, the number plate, or any other part of
the vehicle's equipment, and it must be flush with the edge of the vehicle.
• This installation manual does not apply for all vehicle types. Due to the huge number of manu-
facturers and automotive makes, the following installation steps should serve as general gui-
delines. In case of vehicle-specific questions please contact the manufacturer or a specialist
workshop. Check the motor vehicle laws in a given country to find out whether the installation,
the installation location and the use of this system are permitted.
• Keep the unit out of the reach of children. It is not a toy.
• Do not leave packaging materials unattended. It may become a dangerous plaything for
children.
• Please also observe the additional safety instructions in each individual section of these
instructions.
• If you have any questions, which are not answered in this manual, please contact our techni-
cal service or another specialist.
Assembling the camera
The camera is designed for installation on the rear of the vehicle. If it is installed on the front of
the vehicle, damage from stone strikes cannot be excluded. The warranty will be void!
Before drilling into your vehicle, check to make sure that doing so will not damage any cables or
lines (compressed air or petrol lines). If you are not sure, consult a specialist workshop.
If holes are bored into the body of your vehicle, the borings must be cleaned out with a vacuum
cleaner, and the bare metal areas must be protected against rust with suitable measures (apply
colour and preserving spray).
The camera is not suitable for mounting in a hanging position. As shown in figure 3, the installa-
tion must be in an upright position or similar.
• Hold the camera up to the intended mounting location (e.g. of a bumper). Check that the camera does not
cover important components such as license plate lighting or rear lights. The camera may not protrude the
vehicle either. The opening of doors or lids must not be impeded or made impossible.
• Place the camera along with the mounting bracket (figure 1, pos. 4) on the intended mounting location and
mark the mounting holes in the middle of the two slots of the mounting bracket (figure 2, pos. 1). Drill the
mounting holes, suitable for the screws to be used, with an appropriate drill.
• Check whether your vehicle already has a suitable opening that can be used to lead the camera's con-
nection cable with 5-pole plug (Fig. 2, Pos. 2) into the interior of the vehicle. Otherwise, you must drill a
corresponding hole at a suitable spot. To be able to correctly install the cable seal attached to the camera's
cable (Fig. 2, Pos. 2), the drilled hole must have a diameter of 20 mm.
• After you have laid the connection cable of the camera in the vehicle's interior, the cables must be con-
nected. First, connect the extension cable to the cable of the camera. Hereby, the two 5-pole plugs are
connected, then secured against loosening using the knurled nut, and the rubber grommet placed over
them for protection against humidity.
