CHARGING A LEAD-ACID BATTERY
• First make sure your lead-acid battery is a 12 V battery. Do not charge batteries with different
operating voltages!
• Disconnect all loads from the battery.
• If the battery is installed in a vehicle, turn off the ignition and any other loads.
Observe the instructions and safety information of the vehicle to find out how the
vehicle battery should be charged. Modern vehicles are equipped with sensitive
electronic parts and controls that can be damaged if you do not proceed properly!
We recommend disconnecting both battery terminals from the vehicle. First disconnect the
ground connection (negative/-) from the battery. Then disconnect the positive terminal (+).
Please note that the radio or the on-board computer in your vehicle might lose data during
this process.
• Carefully clean the battery terminals. Make sure that no residues come into skin or eye contact.
• First connect the battery charger to the battery with the correct polarity. If the polarity is not correct,
LED 5 lights up.
• When the polarity is correct, connect the battery charger to the power supply (220-240 V~/50/60 Hz).
• This battery charger is equipped with an automatic reset function, i.e. whenever it is connected, it starts
in stand-by mode (LED 2 is lit).
• Now you can select a function using the mode button (9). See the next chapter for a description of the
individual operating modes.
If you want to charge a vehicle battery without disconnecting it (see safety instructions at
the beginning of this section), you have to find out which terminal of the battery is
connected to the vehicle body (the negative terminal in most vehicles) before connecting
the battery charger.
Use a bare piece of metal (no painted metal). Moreover, it has to be as far away as
possible from the battery or fuel lines.
Negative terminal of the battery is connected to the body:
First connect the red clamp of the battery charger to the positive terminal (+) of the battery.
Then connect the black clamp to a bare piece of metal of the engine block.
Positive terminal of the battery is connected to the body:
First connect the black clamp of the battery charger to the negative terminal (-) of the
battery. Then connect the red clamp to a bare piece of metal of the engine block.
• After the charging process, disconnect the battery charger from the mains supply.
• First remove the clamp from the negative terminal and then from the positive terminal.
OPERATING MODES
Mode 1: Motorcycle mode (up to 14 Ah)
This mode is intended especially for batteries with a capacity below 14 Ah, e.g. for motorcycle batteries.
To select this mode, press the MODE button (9) until LED 8 (motorcycle symbol) lights up. The charging
process starts automatically (0.8 A+/-10%), LED 3 is lit.
When the battery is fully charged (14.4 V +/- 0.25 V), LED 4 lights up (LEDs 8 + 3 are not lit). The device
automatically switches to trickle charge.
Mode 2: Summer mode (14.4 V +/- 0.25 V)
This mode is suitable for all lead-acid batteries (also SLA, gel, and AGM) with a capacity above 14 Ah at
normal ambient temperature.
To select this mode, press the MODE button (9) until LED 7 (car symbol) lights up. The charging process
starts automatically (4.0A+/-10%), LED 3 is lit.
When the battery is fully charged (14.4 V +/- 0.25 V), LED 4 lights up (LEDs 7 + 3 are not lit). The device
automatically switches to trickle charge.
Mode 3: Winter mode (14.7 V +/- 0.25 V)
This mode is suitable for all lead-acid batteries (also SLA, gel, and AGM) with a capacity above 14 Ah at
low ambient temperature.
To select this mode, press the MODE button (9) until LED 6 (star symbol) lights up. The charging
process starts automatically (4.0A+/-10%), LED 3 is lit.
When the battery is fully charged (14.7 V +/- 0.25 V), LED 4 lights up (LEDs 6 + 3 are not lit). The device
automatically switches to trickle charge.
You can also use this mode with batteries specified by the manufacturer to be suitable for a higher
charge end voltage. Please observe the charging instructions of the battery manufacturer.
Regeneration function:
This function is designed to regenerate deep-discharged batteries. It cannot be directly selected using the
MODE button (9). In any of the three selectable modes, it is automatically activated when the battery
voltage is below 10.5 V.
The battery charger automatically detects the voltage of the connected battery.
From a voltage of 3.5 V, the device applies a low current (0.8A +/-10%) to the battery until it reaches a
voltage of approx. 7.5 V.
Then the charger pauses for approx. 2 minutes. If the voltage falls drastically within these two minutes,
the device shuts down and LED 3 starts flashing to indicate that the battery is faulty.
If the voltage is below 3.5 V, the device switches to stand-by mode, LED 2 lights up.
If the voltage of 7.5 V can be maintained, the charger switches to pulse charge until a voltage of 10.5 V is
reached. At a battery voltage of 10.5 V, the battery charger automatically switches to the selected
charging mode.
CHARGING CURVE
• The battery charger automatically detects the voltage of the connected battery. Depending on the
voltage, the charger applies the appropriate charging current.
• At a voltage of 3.5 V, the charger applies a constant low current (0.8 A) to the battery until it reaches a
voltage of approx. 7.5 V.
• Then the charger pauses for approx. 2 minutes. If the voltage falls drastically within these two minutes,
the device shuts down and LED 3 starts flashing to indicate that the battery is faulty.
• At 7.5 V, the charger starts pulse charging is short intervals until a voltage of 10.5 V is reached. At a
battery voltage of 10.5 V, the battery charger automatically switches to the selected charging mode.
• The charger begins with a charging current of max. 4 A. When the battery voltage reaches 12.8 V, the
charging current is reduced to 3 A.
• In order to fully charge the battery, the charging current is again reduced at a voltage 14.1 V to 0.8 A
until the respective charge end voltage is reached (14.4 V or 14.7 V).
In motorcycle mode, (for batteries up to 14 Ah), the charging current is lower accordingly
(max. 0.8 A).
• When the charge end voltage is reached, the charger switches to trickle charge. This function keeps
your battery at a voltage of 13.6 V. This balances the self-discharge of the battery.
LED LIGHT
• Press the LED light button (1) to activate or deactivate the LED light.
CLEANING
Disconnect the battery charger from the battery and the mains voltage before cleaning it.
Clean the outside of the product with a clean, dry, and soft cloth.
Do not use aggressive cleaning agents to avoid discolouration.
DISPOSAL
Product
At the end of its service life, dispose of the product according to the relevant statutory
regulations.
Lead-acid batteries
The end user is legally obliged (battery regulation) to return used batteries. Disposal in the
household waste is prohibited!
Batteries containing lead are marked with „Pb" written next to the trashcan symbol. This
Pb
indicates disposal in the household waste is prohibited.
You can return used lead-acid batteries free of charge at the official collection points of
your community, in our stores, or wherever lead-acid batteries are sold!
You thus fulfil your legal obligations and contribute to the protection of the environment.
