SP480A Wireless Loudspeaker
Item-No. 32 58 45
Intended Use
The wireless loudspeaker set is designed to transmit audio signals over a wireless connection
and to amplify and play back these audio signals in home audio systems and, to that end, it is
connected to the signal source to be amplified.
The transmitter may be controlled only by a low-level audio source.
For the power supply, only the enclosed wall plug transformers are permitted. However, the
speakers can also be powered by batteries as an alternative.
The wall plug transformers are only suitable for use with normal household mains sockets with
100 – 240 V/50 - 60Hz alternating current.
Please observe the regulations concerning radio operation in your country when using this product.
The product may only be used indoors; never outdoors. Contact with moisture, for example in
bathrooms, must be avoided.
Any other use than that described above, could lead to damage to this product and involves the risk
of short circuits, fire, electric shock, etc.
No part of the product may be modified or rebuilt and the housing must not be opened.
The safety instructions must be observed at all times.
This product complies with the applicable National and European specifications.
Safety Instructions
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe
these safety instructions. We do not assume liability for any resulting damage.
We do not assume any liability for material and personal damage caused by
improper use or non-compliance with the safety instructions. In such cases
the warranty will be null and void.
An exclamation mark inside a triangle indicates important instructions in the
operating manual.
The "hand" symbol indicates special information and advice on operating the
device.
• For safety and approval (CE) reasons, unauthorised conversion and/or modifications to the
product are not permitted.
• The wall pug transformer provided is constructed according to protection class II.
• Only connect the wall plug transformers to standard mains sockets (100 – 240 V/50 - 60Hz).
• To disconnect the wireless speaker system completely from the mains, the wall plug trans-
formers must be disconnected from the mains sockets.
• Never replace the damaged cable of a power supply. If the connecting cable is damaged, the
power supply is unusable and must be disposed of. Do not repair.
• Devices, operated by the mains voltage, must be kept out of the reach of children. For this rea-
son, be particularly cautious when using the system in the presence of children. They may try
to poke objects into it through openings in the housing. There is danger of a life-threatening
electric shock.
• Check the wireless speaker system for damage from time to time. Do not touch a power sup-
ply, the transmitter, the speakers or the connection cables if they show signs of damage. First,
switch off at the mains socket to which the product is connected (e.g. with the circuit breaker),
and then carefully unplug the transformer from the mains socket. Do not use the product after-
wards, instead take it to a specialist workshop.
• Never place vessels or containers containing liquids, such as glasses, buckets, vases or plants,
in the immediate vicinity of the system. Liquids may seep into the casing and thus impair the
electrical safety of the device. Furthermore, there is a significant risk of fire or of a lethal electric
shock! In such an event, isolate the mains socket, to which the product is connected (e.g. switch
off the automatic fuse), and unplug the power transformer from the mains socket. The product
must not be operated any longer. Take it to a specialist workshop.
• Do not expose the system to high temperatures, humidity, dripping or sprayed water, strong
vibrations or heavy mechanical loads.
• Do not place naked flames, such as burning candles, on or close to the system.
• If you have doubts about how the equipment should be operated or how to safely connect it,
consult a trained technician.
• Do not leave packing materials unattended. It may become a dangerous plaything for children.
• Never leave the system running unsupervised.
• Do not use the system in a tropical climate.
• Comply with the safety and operating instructions of any other devices that are connected to the
wireless speaker system as well as the additional safety instructions in the individual chapters in
these instructions.
• If in doubt about how to connect the device correctly, or should any questions arise that are
not answered in these operating instructions, please contact our technical advisory service or
another specialist.
Product Description
The wireless speaker system consists of a transmitter and two loudspeakers with integrated receivers.
The transmitter receives the audio signals from the audio source device (e.g. CD player) and
converts them to a radio signal. This radio signal is received by the receivers in the speakers and
converted back into the original audio signals again.
These signals are amplified and played back over the speakers.
By the technology described above, music can be transmitted wirelessly and through walls.
The transmitter recognizes when there is an audio signal available and switches on automati-
cally. When the audio signal is no longer available, the transmitter automatically switches itself
off again after a short time.
The adaptation to the signal strength also occurs automatically.
Installation/Setup
There should be no devices with strong electrical fields, such as wireless tele-
phones, radios or electrical motors, in the vicinity of the wireless speaker system.
The system can also be affected by interference ("radiation") from tuners, TV
sets etc. Make sure the system is as far as possible from such devices.
Metal surfaces, steel concrete walls and proximity to strong electrical or elec-
tromagnetic fields, such as those produced by electric motors, radio systems,
etc. also have the effect of reducing the range.
• Place the enclosed plastic tube on the antenna of the transmitter.
• Place the receiver near the audio device to which it is to be connected.
• Unfold the feet on the back of the speakers to position them.
• Alternatively, you can also attach the speakers to the wall by hanging them from two screws.
The indentations, for hanging from the screw heads, are on the back of the speaker housing.
Getting Started
The wireless speaker system is only suitable for low-level audio signals. Only
connect devices with such connections.
If in doubt, consult an expert.
If these instructions are not observed, the wireless speaker system or con-
nected devices could be damaged.
Audio Connection of the Transmitter
• Connect the connection cable of the transmitter (marked on the transmitter with TO AUDIO)
with the Audio Out on your audio device. If the output uses a different socket type, please use
a suitable adapter.
The transmitter has an automatic volume adjustment. Therefore, you can connect it
to regulated and unregulated audio outputs. There is no need to worry about over-
loading the input.
Connecting the power supplies
Only use the enclosed wall plug transformers for connecting to the mains.
Only a 100 – 240 V/50 - 60Hz mains socket connected to the mains public sup-
ply may be used as to power the wall plug transformers. Never try to operate
the devices with any other voltage.
When making the connections, make sure that the connecting cables are not
pinched or damaged by sharp edges.
The mains sockets, to which the power supplies are connected, must be eas-
ily accessible, so the wall plug transformers can be quickly removed from the
mains voltage in the case of a fault.
• Connect the power supplies's low-voltage plugs to the DC IN jacks on the transmitter and the
speakers.
The two identical power supplies are intended for the speakers. The single power
supply is connected to the transmitter.
• Plug the power supplies into the wall mains socket.
Inserting Batteries into the Speakers
The speakers can also be powered by batteries as an alternative.
Keep batteries out of the reach of children.
Ensure the polarity is correct, when inserting the batteries.
Remove the batteries if you are not going to use the wireless speaker system
for a while, to prevent damage due to leaking. Leaking or damaged batter-
ies/rechargeable batteries can cause acid burns upon contact with skin. Thus,
you should wear protective gloves when handling damaged batteries/
rechargeable batteries.
Keep them out of the reach of children. Never use batteries from different man-
ufacturers or with different levels of charge at the same time.
The battery must not be short-circuited or thrown into a fire. Do not attempt to
recharge the batteries. There is danger of explosion.
• Open the battery compartments on the backs of the speaker housings.
• Insert six new 1.5V mignon cells (AA) in the battery compartment of each speaker, and pay
attention to the polarity. The correct polarity is printed in the battery compartment.
• Close the battery compartments again with covers removed previously.
• If the maximum volume decreases or the device no longer works, the batteries are flat and
need to be replaced.
• To ensure a long battery life, only use alkaline types.
• The use of rechargeable batteries means a lower volume and shorter operating time because
of the lower voltage and capacity.
The batteries are automatically switched off as soon as a power unit is connected.
