TROUBLESHOOTING

Incorrect operations are often mistaken for trouble and malfunctions. If you think that there is something wrong with this component, check
the Points below. Sometimes the trouble may lie in another component. Investigate the other components and electrical appliances being
your dealer to carry out repair work.
Symptom
POWER
Cannot turn power on.
The door does not open.
The door does not close.

Immediately Stops.

The level meter does not
work.

The recording indicator
does not light up.

REC LEVEL control does
not function.
Cause
The power plug is disconnected.
l
The component (stereo amplifier, audio timer, etc.)
l
to which the power cord is connected is off.
The deck is not in stop mode (tape is moving).
l
Power was turned off with the tape moving.
l
The cassette is not properly loaded.
The tape is completely wound.
l
The tape is slack.
The tape is blank.
l
The tape head is dirty.
l
The amplifier input selector is not correctly set.
l
The amplifier volume level setting is too low.
l
Connection Problems (wrang connection, cord
l
removed, poor contact, broken wire.)
l
The cassette erasure prevention tabs are broken.
REC LEVEL control is set too low.
l
The amplifier is not delivering a recording Signal
l
Wrong connection, connection cord removed, poor
l
contact, broken wire.
The tape is completely wound.

The tape is slack.

The head is dirty.

Connection Problems (wrang connection, cord

The tape is being copied.

Connect the power plug.
l
Turn the stereo amplifier or audio timer on.
l
Press the stop (~1 button.
l
Turn power on.
l

Play back in the opposite direction.
l
Rewind the tape.
l
Take up the slack (sec page 4).
l
Replace the blank tape with a prerecorded one.
l
Clean the heads (sec page 5).
l
l
Set the amplifier input selector correctly.
Turn the amplifier volume control up.
l
Connect securely (sec page 6).
l
Replace the cassette with one whose tabs are
l
Cover the hole o ,er the tab (sec page 4).
l
Turn REC LEVEL control up (sec page 16).
l
Set the amplifier recording output selector
l
correctly.
Check connections (sec page 6).
l
l
Rewind the tape.
l
Take up the slack (sec page 4).
l
Clean the head be page 51.
l
Check that the recording and playback connection
l
Set the amplifier selector correctly.
l
When recording is finished,REC LEVEL control
l
will function.
