Installation of a SATA Hard Drive
• First remove the casing lid of the digital recorder by unscrewing its attachment screws (two
screws each on the left and right and 1 screw on the rear side).
Only an 8.89 cm/3.5 SATA hard drive is suitable (max. 2 TB) for the installation.
For use as surveillance device, you have to install a hard drive that can be used in
continuous operation. These are usually more expensive than "normal" hard drives.
Do not install desktop hard discs in the digital recorder as these will age faster or
read/write errors may occur if the hard discs are used in continuous operation.
Furthermore, pay attention that the hard drive used does not develop a lot of heat.
• Attach the hard disc with 4 screws on the digital recorder's supports intended for this pur-
pose.
• Connect the power cable and the SATA cable between the hard drive and control PCB of the
digital recorder.
• Replace the casing lid of the digital recorder and fasten it with the screws removed earlier in
this step.
Mounting the cameras
For outdoor use, we recommend that you choose a location that is protected from
precipitation (e.g. under the eaves) to prevent the formation of droplets on the cam-
eras' front panel that will cause a distorted and unusable image.
The cameras are equipped with a pre-mounted wall bracket. This is to be tightened to a suitable
place using three screws. Use appropriate screws and wall plugs, depending on the surface.
Make sure when screwing into place or when drilling holes that cables or wires are
not damaged.
If the connection cable is to be laid so it is hidden, a correspondingly large hole has to be drilled
underneath the wall bracket, so the plug can be passed through. The wall bracket will then
cover this opening and protect the cable from intentional damage.
Alternatively, the cable may be lead outward via a small opening on the side of the wall mount.
Protect the cable with a suitable cable conduit or similar.
The connection plugs are not waterproof and should be kept indoors, otherwise they
will corrode.
Place the cameras as desired and fasten them.
The cameras should not be pointed directly at bright sources of light or the sun, since the image
will be overexposed.

Connecting the cameras

Each of the 4 cameras is equipped with a connection cable with two connectors on the end:
• BNC socket: The video signal (PAL) is available over this.
• Circular socket: The external power supply is connected to this socket.
If you install and use the camera in outdoor areas, the two connectors have to be
placed in a location that is protected from humidity (in dry interior areas). Otherwise,
the connectors will corrode.
In the dark, the IR LEDs are activated automatically. However, the LEDs are not
visible to the human eye. Please bear in mind that at night, coloured image repro-
duction changes into a black and white monochrome representation as a matter of
principle.
The package contains four camera connection cables (length approx. 18 m). Connect them
with the cameras.
The BNC socket on the other end of the connection cable has to be connected to one of the
BNC video inputs of the digital recorder.
For the power supply of the cameras and the digital recorder a special Y-cable is included in
the delivery. The four thin cables are to be used with the four cameras. The individual, thicker
cable is intended for the connection to the digital recorder.

Getting Started

Setting up of the digital recorder
• Select a suitable installation location. This location should be a place where the digital re-
corder is protected from unauthorised access.
• Protect the digital recorder from direct sunlight and heat. The cooling of the digital recorder
and the installed hard drive takes place via air convection. Never cover the digital recorder, do
not place any other devices or objects on it.
• For example, if the digital recorder is installed in a cabinet, a suitable cooling system is
required in order to avoid heat accumulation.
• Keep in mind that the digital recorder must not be exposed to vibrations or agitations, other-
wise the hard drive will be damaged. Thus, all previous recordings will be lost.
Connection
• You can connect a surveillance monitor either to the BNC video output or to the VGA output.
• Connect the USB mouse enclosed to one of the USB ports.
• Insert batteries into the IR remote control.
• Connect the digital recorder with the circular low-voltage plug of the Y cable provided (the in-
dividual, thicker cable of the Y-cable is to be used for the digital recorder, the four thin cables
for the four cameras).
Afterwards, connect the power adaptor to a standard mains socket, using the Euro-power
cable supplied. The digital recorder performs a self-test (approx. 10 seconds) and afterwards,
it is operational.
Do not move the digital recorder with the installed hard drive when the latter is in
operation. Movement during operation may cause the write/read heads in the hard
drive to make contact with the magnetic disk. This may not only lead to data loss but
may also damage the hard drive!
The same applies to the 30-second period after the digital recorder has been discon-
nected from the mains voltage, until the magnetic disks in the hard drive have come
to a standstill.
Access to the OSD menu, entering the password
There 2 different options to enter the OSD menu:
1. Right-click with the mouse and select the bottom menu point "Main Menu".
2. Press the button "Menu/Enter" on the IR remote control.
Afterwards, an input window for user name and password will appear.
There are three different, pre-programmed combinations of user name and password:
User name
password
Function
admin
admin
Full access to all setting functions
88888888
88888888
Full access to all setting functions
66666666
66666666
Access to surveillance, playback and backup functions only
To be able to access all functions of the OSD menu, select either "admin" or
"88888888" as user name.
The selection can be done either via USB mouse or via arrow keys "S" or "F" on the
IR remote control.
Click into the input fi eld to the right of "Password" using the USB mouse, or briefl y press the
"D" on the IR remote control.
Now enter the password with the IR remote control. Alternatively, click into the input fi eld with
the mouse to enter the password. A numeric keyboard then appears below the input fi eld which
you can use to enter the password.
After confi rmation of the password input (press the "Menu/Enter" key on the IR remote control
2x or click on the "OK" button with the mouse), the OSD menu will be started.
Formatting the hard disk
During initial start-up, the installed hard drive has to be formatted in the setting menu of the
digital recorder. This will result in the loss of all data stored on the hard disc.
Without formatting the hard drive, you won't be able to record videos of the connected surveil-
lance cameras.
Please observe the enclosed manufacturer's English instruction manual.

Maintenance and Cleaning

The product is maintenance-free.
Before cleaning the digital recorder, disconnect it from the power supply (unplug the plug).
Then, wait for at least 30 seconds until the magnetic disks in the hard drive have come to a
complete stop. Use a clean, dry, soft cloth for cleaning. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents
as these can cause discolouration. Do not press too strongly on the surface when cleaning,
to prevent scratch marks. Dust can easily be removed using a clean, long-haired brush and a
vacuum cleaner.
For cleaning of the cameras a soft cloth, moistened with water can be used. Clean especially
the cover of the lens and the IR LEDs thoroughly.
