Input and Output Connections:

The quality of the interconnect cables is extremely important in realizing the full sonic potential of the
clearaudio Reference Phonostage. The interconnect needs to be symmetrical designed, no coaxial!
Inputs and outputs for left and right channels are marked accordingly on the rear panel. One special
input 5-pin connector ("Binder"- Connector) can be used for direct wiring from the cartridge to the
Reference Phonostage.
Minimize of Hum:
Another very special feature of the clearaudio Reference Phonostage are totaly separated
EARTH/Ground connections between the EARTH (CASE/ housing) and PCB GND (electrical circuit). One
additional EARTH connection is available at the external power supply. Clearaudio Reference Phono
preamplifier will give proper sound performance if there is no hum. To minimize the hum, it is
recomended to connect both EARTH and PCB-GNG connectors by short wire and compare in what
configuration the total hum in the system is lower. Sometimes the hum can be eliminated/ minimzed by
connecting the EARTH connection from power supply with minus loudspeaker outlet of the amplifier.
Note: You should minimize the hum first, before you listen to any LP record!
Also we recommend to use phono cables with symmetrical design like clearaudio "Quint" or the
"Sixstream".
There are two subsonic jumpers J7 und J8 on the main board (see attached layout).
The subsonic filter is OFF, if the jumpers are plugged in. Removing both jumpers J7 and J8 will switch
the subsonic filter ON. We recommend the position subsonic filter OFF. Therefore from the clearaudio
factory both jumpers are placed / set up in the position on the main board and subsonic filter is
switched OFF.
