Placement of the Reference Phonostage:
The Reference Phonostage should be placed close to the turntable nearest to the signal source, in order
to use as short as possible phono cables between the tonearm and the Reference Phonostage. The best
connection between the cartridge and the Reference Phono Stage will be realised with a direct wired
tonearm. The Reference Phonostage should be placed as far away as possible from motors,
transformers, power amplifiers outside of hum inducing magnetic fields.
Applying Power:
The external power supply PS 02 MK1 contains two separated 100 Watt power supplies, for each
channel one. Before applying power, check the voltage indication on the external power supply to be
sure, that it is correct for your local AC power in your country. Connect the AMP connectors to the
power supply and to the Reference Phonostage, then connect the AC power cord and turn on the AC
power switch on the power supply. The 4 LED´s in the Reference Phonostage will glow blue when it is
on.
Note: Never disconnect the AMP connector from the Reference Phonostage if the power supply is still
on. Before you disconnect the AMP connector from the power supply or from the Reference Phonostage
for any reason, first make sure, that the AC Power switch is in the position OFF! Then wait until all 4
blue LED´s has stopped glowing, only then you can disconnect the AMP connectors.
For the optimal sound results we recommend to run the Reference Phono Stage continuosly on power
to minimize thermal cycling of the components.
Phono Gain Setting:
The clearaudio Reference Phono stage provides adjustable total gain by changing the resistors R6 and
R26 (see attached layout). The following table shows values of resistors R6 and R 26 with
corresponding gain at 1 kHz:
Value of resistors
R6 and R26 in Ohm

The total gain is set up from the factory to the highest value of 57 dB (R6=R26=20 Ohm)
