GENERAL
The LAKE PEOPLE ADC C440 consists of a
sync unit and an analog-digital converter of
highest quality.
It converts a stereophonic analog input signal
into a linear (PCM) 24 bit digital output signal
with a dynamic range of 119 dB and THD+N of
–109 dB (@ 48 kHz) and 32 ... 108 kHz
sample-rate.
The analog inputs are electronically balanced
and equipped with XLR type connectors. Input
sensitivity may be adjusted by two rotary
faders on the frontpanel.
Input level is displayed by two 4-segment LED
meters with a range of –30 ... 0 dBFs.
The internal sample rate can be switched to
44.1, 48 or 96 kHz. Furthermore a WCLK input
is provided for external synchronization.
The two digital outputs are designed to trans-
former
balanced
AES/EBU
(XLR) as well as to unbalanced S/P-DIF (AES-
id) standard.
Digital output format can be set to either
consumer or professional format.
THE CASE
The grounded case is made of 1 - 3 mm thick
stainless steel. This provides high mechanical
stability and resistance against rough handling.
The surfaces of the case are not treated with
any material, so providing excellent electrical
conductances for optimum EMC character-
istics.
THE GROUND
The internal ground potential and the case are
connected together.
THE POWER SUPPLY
The appliance should only be operated with
the provided wallplug adaptor.
Other power sources may be used under the
following circumstances:
The power source shall deliver a proper AC or
DC voltage within the range of 8 ... 12 Volt.
The power source shall be able to deliver 1.5
times the current which is marked on the back
of the unit.
Voltages exceeding 12 V may cause serious
damages which are not covered by the
warranty.
The unit is protected against reversed polarity.
The external power source is connected with a
3.5
assignment:
POWER-UP
ADC C440 does not include a dedicated power
switch.
After turning on the external power supply the
unit runs a two-second boot routine. During
this period the inputs and outputs are muted.

THE EXTERNAL SYNC INPUT
The sync input is located on the rear panel and
marked "WCLK IN". It accepts Wordclock
signals from 28 ... 108 kHz.
It is equipped with a unbalanced BNC socket.
The input impedance may be switched from 75
ohms to Hi-Z internally. Ex works 75 ohms
impedance is selected.
The input sensitivity is 200mV at Tnom/2.
THE EXTERNAL SYNC SOURCE
Pushing the "WCLK" button activates the
WCLK sync input and the corresponding LED
is lit.
If a valid signal is present at the appropriate
input, the green "LOCK" LED is lit. The
computed sample-rate of the active input is
displayed by the yellow LEDs 44.1, 48 or 96
kHz as far as the external clock is within a
range of +/- 200 Hz around these fixed fre-
quencies.
A not valid signal or a signal beyond the range
of 28 kHz > Fs > 108 kHz is displayed by the
red "ERRor" LED.
In this case the internal clock conditioning is
interrupted and the ADC´s outputs are muted.
