8. Handling
Observe all safety notices in this operating manual!
Operation is only admissible in dry interior rooms. The contact with
moisture has to be avoided at all costs. Do not touch the device and the
power cable/plug with damp or wet hands! Danger of mortal electric
shock!
Avoid the following adverse environmental conditions at the installation site
or during transport.
• Dampness or excess humidity
• Extreme heat or cold
• Direct sunlight
• Dust or flammable gasses, vapours or solvents.
• Strong vibrations
• Strong magnetic fields like in proximity to machines/loudspeakers
Ensure the sufficient ventilation of the computer/power pack at the installa-
tion site. The computer must be placed/installed in such a way that the air
can circulate. Never cover up the ventilation openings, never cover up the
computer during operation.
Never put any pointed devices (e.g. paper clips, pens, knitting needles,
pins, etc.) into the ventilation slots and the openings!
Children might try to insert objects (e.g. toys) into the ventilation slots,
device openings of the ATX power pack respectively the computer.
This will damage the ATX power pack and the computer it is installed in.
In addition, there is the risk of a mortal electric shock when touching
electric cables and connection spots.
Condensation may form when the power pack (respectively the computer in
which the power pack is installed) is brought from a cold into a warm room.
Let the power pack (and the computer in which it is installed) reach
room temperature first before connecting it with the mains voltage and
turning it on. This might take several hours. Otherwise, not only the
power pack or the computer may be destroyed, there is also the risk of
a mortal electric shock!
When installing the computer, make sure you do not bend or squash any
connection cables.
Prior to each use, check the ATX power pack (and the computer) for dam-
ages. If you detect any damages, you MAY NOT connect the ATX power
pack respectively the computer to the power supply! Mortal danger!
28
Safe operation can no longer be assumed if
-
the appliance shows visible damage,
-
the appliance no longer works and
-
after long storage under adverse conditions or
-
after heavy transport strain.
Do not pull on the power cable to unplug it from the outlet! Always pull the
plug out of the outlet by grasping it on the riffled sides. Otherwise the pow-
er cable may be damaged. Danger of electric shock!
The ATX power pack may not be opened. There are no parts to be main-
tained by the user on the inside of the ATX power pack.
If you are not going to use the ATX power pack (respectively the computer it
is installed in) for a longer period of time (e.g. in case of storage), turn it off
via the mains switch and additionally pull the power plug out of the power
outlet.
If you only turn the computer off via the power button on the front of the PC
casing, the computer respectively the power pack is in standby mode, simi-
lar to a TV. Prior to conversion work on the PC (e.g. installation of a
plug&play card), you must separate the PC from the mains voltage. Turn the
ATX power pack off via the mains switch and separate it from the mains volt-
age, pull the power plug.
In standby mode, the ATX power pack still consumes (a slight amount) of
power. Slight warming is therefore normal. This may add up to some kWh
(kilowatt hours) per month in standby mode. Depending on the electricity
tariff, this results in costs of approx. 1 to 2 Euro per month, which can easily
be saved. Simply turn the ATX power pack off via the mains switch.
