milk
9 There's a great deal of contention on the subject of milk in coffee. Our view is that personal
taste should rule, not convention. If you like milk in your coffee, use warm or hot milk, to
avoid overcooling the coffee. To extract maximum flavour from the coffee, it should be cool
enough not to scald or burn the mouth, but hot enough to let the flavour fill the mouth, nose
and sinuses, not just the taste buds.
bottled water
10 If you use bottled water, check that there are no added ingredients, flavourings, etc., and use
"still" water, not "sparkling". The carbon dioxide which gives the "sparkle" will adversely affect
the flavour of your coffee.
taste
11 Don't be tempted to reheat coffee in the appliance. You'll damage the appliance and the
coffee will be undrinkable.
12 Clean the filter holder and carafe after each use. Residue from a previous brew will spoil your
coffee.
preparation
13 Sit the appliance on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface.
14 Route the cable so it doesn't overhang, and can't be tripped over or caught.
15 Don't plug it in yet.
filling
16 If it's just been used, let the coffee maker cool down for at least 10 minutes.
17 Remove the carafe from the stand.
18 Open the reservoir lid.
19 Fill with at least 2 cups of water, but not above max.
20 Close the reservoir lid
21 Alternatively, you may lift the reservoir off the appliance, fill it in the kitchen, and carry it back
to the appliance.
22 Replace the reservoir in the appliance.
23 Close the reservoir lid
24 Swing the filter holder out.
25 Open up a #4 paper filter, and put it into the filter holder.
26 Put filter-ground coffee into the filter. The amount will vary with the type of coffee and
individual taste, but we suggest two rounded teaspoons per cup of water.
27 Swing the filter holder back into place.
prewarm the carafe
28 Unscrew the carafe lid, rinse the carafe with hot water, then screw the lid back on.
switch on
29 Put the plug into the power socket.
30 Initially, the display will show AM, and 12:00.
