Service and Storage

- Take care that all screw connections are tightened.
- Never store the mower with gasoline in fuel tank in a
building where gasoline vapors may come in contact
with open fires or where sparks could ignite fumes.
- The fuel tank should be emptied outdoors. Use
suitable containers for draining gasoline.
- Let the engine cool off prior to storage in an
enclosed area.
- To avoid danger of fire, clean grass, leaves or
escaping grease (oil) off engine, muffler, battery box,
gear box (if existing), and fuel tank.
- On a regular basis, check the ejection shield for
wear and tear and sound operation.
- For safety reasons, replace worn or damaged parts.
- Always wear protective gloves when working near
the cutting device's vicinity.
- Servicing and repairs are only to be conducted when
engine is turned off and when spark plug cap is removed.
- For warranty purposes and safety reasons only
SOLO replacement parts should be used.

Assembly
For transport, the ejection shield (Pos. 7) is not
installed and the upper part of the handle (Pos. 6)
is folded.
Remove the loosely fitted fastening screws and fold
the upper part of the handle backwards. Fix the
upper part of the handle (Pos. 6) to the lower part
(Pos. 14) as well as the lower support handle. Use 4
round head screws M8x45 and 4 washers 8.4mm as
supplied.
The nuts should be on the inside of the handle
(Illu.1).
Note: When attaching the handle, make certain
that the bowden cables are not caught anywhere
or are bent sharply. Fix the cables on the handle.
Adjusting the cutting height
The cutting height can be adjusted to five differnt
settings. Always adjust all wheels evenly.

Variable drive speed
SOLO lawnmowers 551-R /552 HR are equipped
with variable speeds (3 positions).
The speed as set by the factory can be
altered to a slower speed by removing a
spacer washer. The speed can be increased
by adding a spacer washer.
Changing the drive speed (illustration 5)
A. Remove fastening screw for belt pulley "B".
B. Remove half of belt pulley.
C. Select speed by either adding or removing
a washer.
D. Re-install belt and pulley
E. Refit fastening screw for belt pulley
10 Nm (1.0 mkp)
F. Move tension pulley inwardsby hand
to tension belt.
Drive speed at max. engine speed
Slow speed =
approx. 3.4 km/h (approx. 2.1 miles/h)
Medium speed(factory setting) =
approx. 4.1 km/h (approx. 2.5 miles/h)
Fast speed =
approx. 4.8 km/h (approx. 2.9 miles/h)
Note: A shorter belt is required to change to fast
speed. This belt is available from your SOLO
dealer. The part no. is 0057205.
Attention!When folding and
unfolding the handle, pay special
attention that the bowden cables
are not bent and run smoothly.
Caution! Assure that bowden cables are not
caught up anywhere and that they have not
become damaged during transport.
Engine
Prior to start up, carefully read the
engine operating manual and the following
instructions. Adhere to all instructions to
assure the engine's long life and to keep the warranty
valid.
