Photoelectric Sensors
Diffuse reflectiv with background supression BOS 5K-..-LH12-..
Installation
Caution!
Do not look into the laser beam.
The sensor must be installed as to prevent a direct line of
eyesight to the light source, even during operation and so
that the specification warning label is easily visible.
No additional protective measures are necessary for opera-
tion. The transmitter and the laser light barrier comply with
laser class 1 in accordance with IEC 60825-1 "Safety of laser
products" (2007).
The installation location must be free of vibration, dust,
poisonous vapors, water, oil and chemicals.
The sensor may not be installed outdoors and not next
to inductive devices or heat sources.
The sensor may not be exposed to direct sunlight or
other direct light.
Max. tightening torque for the screws is 0.5 Nm.
The max. cable length is 100 m with a conductor
cross-section of 0.3 mm
.
2
Do not route the connection cable parallel to high-
voltage and motor cables.
Do not exceed a tightening torque on the connector
securing ring of 0.5 Nm.

1 Potentiometer
6-turns potentiometer. Used for setting the background
supression (BGS) respectively range of the receiver.
2 Yellow LED
Output function indicator: The LED comes on as soon as
the output is active.
3 Light-on/dark-on switch
Used for setting the output function light-on or dark-on
4 Green LED
Stability indicator: The LED comes on as soon as the
sensor is operational and is working within a reliable range.
Setting
Range setting
1. Place the target inside the beam path.
2. Position the sensor at the desired distance.
3. Turn the potentiometer counter
clockwise (shortest range) so
that the yellow LED turns off.
4. Turn the potentiometer slowly
clockwise (there may be more
than 1 turn) until the yellow LED turns on. The object is
now detected (position a).
5. Remove the target: The yellow LED turns off.
6. Continue turning the potentiometer clockwise (there
may be more than 1 turn) until the yellow LED turns on:
The background is detected (position b). If no back-
ground is detected, position b overlaps with the max.
setting.
7. Turn the potentiometer to the middle position c bet-
ween a and b. The sensor is now ready.
Note: If the sensor is set to light-on switching, the display
responds the opposite way.
Switch function setting
To set light-on:
Turn switch to full CW
To set dark-on:
Turn switch to full CCW
