Working on the appliance
Installation, commissioning, inspection, maintenance and
repairs must be carried out by an authorised, competent
person (heating engineer/installation contractor).
When working on the appliance, disconnect the power plug
or isolate the appliance from the power supply (e.g. at the
separate fuse or a main switch) and safeguard against
reconnection. Check that no voltage is present.
Wear suitable personal protective equipment when carrying
out any work.
During installation and maintenance work, ensure that
no water comes into contact with electrical components
and their adjacent parts (flange, electrical cables, thermal
insulation components). If necessary, wipe off water without
leaving any residue.

Hot surfaces can cause burns.
Before maintenance and service work, switch OFF the
appliance and let it cool down.
Danger

Risk of scalding: While the appliance is being drained,
the outflowing water may be hot.
Drain the appliance at the connector provided in such
a way that there is no risk of scalding.
Power supply
Danger
¨
Incorrect electrical installations can lead to serious
injury from electrical current and result in appliance
damage.
￭ Connect the power supply and implement all safety
measures (e.g. RCD circuit) in accordance with the
following regulations:
- IEC 60364-4-41
- VDE regulations
- TAR low voltage VDE-AR-N-4100
￭ Only connect the appliance to the mains voltage
specified on the type plate.
Danger

The absence of system component earthing can lead
to serious injury from electrical current and component
damage in the event of an electrical fault.
The appliance and pipework must be connected to the
equipotential bonding of the building.

Caution
If the electric immersion heater is connected electri-
cally when the DHW cylinder is not filled, this can lead
to appliance damage.
It is essential to observe the correct sequence:
1. Fill the DHW cylinder completely.
2. Connect the electric immersion heater electrically.
The plug acts as a disconnecting device. Pull the plug to
disconnect the appliance from the power supply. The power
socket must therefore be near the appliance and freely ac-
cessible at all times. Operation requires a max. fuse rating
(on site) of 16 A (US, CA: max. 20 A) for the socket.
Connection to an extension cable with multiple sockets is
not permissible.
In the event of damage or replacement, the power cable
must be replaced with an original spare part by a contractor
authorised by the manufacturer.

Repair work

Caution
Repairing components that fulfil a safety function can
compromise the safe operation of the appliance.
When replacing, only use original parts or spare parts
approved by the manufacturer.
Install the components with new gaskets.
Target group
The appliance can be operated by children aged 3 and
above, as well as by individuals with reduced physical,
sensory or mental faculties or those lacking in experience
and knowledge, provided such individuals are supervised
or have been instructed in the safe use of this appliance as
well as in any risks arising from it.
Children aged 3 to 8 years may only operate the fitting
connected to the appliance. Children aged 3 to 8 must not
insert the plug into the socket or set the appliance controls.
Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried out by
3 to 8 year old children.

Supervise children in the proximity of the appliance.

￭ Cleaning and user maintenance must never be
carried out by unsupervised children.
Operation
Danger

Damaged appliances and connecting cables can lead
to injuries.
Do not commission the appliance if damaged. Contact
a specialised heating contractor.

Caution
Liquids can damage the electrical components of the
immersion heater.
Do not place liquids on the DHW cylinder.
Temperatures above 80 °C will trigger the high limit safety
cut-out of the immersion heater.
Limit the DHW temperature in the DHW cylinder to 80 °C.
Adjust the settings for external heat generators so that
80 °C is not exceeded in the DHW cylinder.
Intended use
The appliance is intended solely for installation and
operation in sealed unvented systems that comply with EN
12828 / DIN 1988, with due attention paid to the associated
installation, service and operating instructions. The immer-
sion heater is intended solely for use in connection with
Vitocell 100-W, types CUGA, CUGB or CUGB-A; 100, 120
or 150 litres.
Intended use presupposes that a fixed installation in
conjunction with permissible, system-specific components
has been carried out.
The appliance is used for the heating of domestic hot water
and can supply one or more draw-off points.
Commercial use for purposes other than DHW heating shall
be deemed inappropriate. Industrial use is not permissible.
Any use that differs from or goes beyond this is considered
inappropriate. Intended use also extends to compliance
with these instructions and with the instructions for any
accessories used. Incorrect usage or operation of the appli-
ance (e.g. the appliance being opened by the system user)
is prohibited and will result in an exclusion of liability.
Note
The appliance is intended exclusively for domestic use, i.e.
even users who have not had any instruction are able to
operate the appliance safely.
