3. BIOS Update

The BIOS of your DC-29160 U3W host adapter can be updated quickly and easily
by means of the SCSIFMT program, for example after downloading a new BIOS
version from the internet.
-
First make sure that the file "29160BIO.BIN" and the new BIOS version figure in
the current directory.
-
Next start the SCSIFMT program under DOS and select your host adapter from
the list displayed on the start-up screen.
-
For safety reasons it is best to first back up your current BIOS via the "Save
Current Flash BIOS" option; the BIOS content is thus stored in the "29160BIO.OLD"
file.
-
Then select "Update Flash BIOS". This will cause the BIOS of the DC-29160 U3W
to be re-programmed. This process can last up to 30 seconds and must not be
interrupted.
4. SCSI Set-up
The BIOS of your DC-29160 U3W SCSI host adapter, which mainly serves as a
SCSI hard disk manager, offers you through its SCSI set-up the additional possibility
of configuring various parameters of your host adapter and its connected devices.
To enter SCSI set-up, press DEL (delete) during the installation of the SCSI BIOS.
After that, the current settings are displayed on your screen. Use the arrow keys to
select a value and the plus and minus keys to modify its setting. Pressing F1 will
activate the default settings of all values. The various settings have the following
meanings:
Hostadapter SCSI ID: defines the SCSI ID of the host adapter. Please use SCSI IDs
8-15 only when exclusively operating 16 bit SCSI devices. In "Auto" position,
the host adapter will select itself an unused ID.
Boot SCSI ID: defines the SCSI ID to start the boot sequence.
Power-On Wait: specifies whether the host adapter is to wait for SCSI devices that
may not be ready to operate after starting the computer. Some hard disks
take some time to pick up their nominal speed.
BIOS Support for Removable Disks: allows you to specify whether the BIOS is also
to initialise removable disks. This only makes sense when you plan to start
your computer from a removable disk drive.
BIOS Support for bootable CDs: allows you to specify whether the computer is to
boot from bootable CDs.
LUN support: enables you to activate LUN support when using devices with several
LUNs (logical units) such as CD jukeboxes and PD drives.
