OPERATION
Hint: These instructions provide basic
information about LGB switches. For
more advanced information, see
"Explore the World of LGB" (00559).
Attention! The wheels of LGB rolling
stock are specifically designed for use
with LGB switches. Rolling stock with
third-party wheels may derail when
crossing LGB switches.
Manual Switches
LGB manual switches include one man-
ual switch drive (Fig. 1). The drive can
be attached on either side of the switch
(b) with two screws.
To move the switch points, push the
spring-loaded lever (a) on the side of
the drive.
Hints:
- A manual switch can be converted to
an electric switch by replacing the
manual drive with a 12010 LGB
Switch Drive.
- Manual drives are spring loaded. If a
train passes through the branches of
a manual switch in the "wrong"
direction, the train will "open" the
points. Then the spring should return
the points to their original position.
However, the spring tension is a com-
promise. Light cars may need addition-
al weight to open the points, and dirt
may prevent the points from closing.
For greater reliability, set the switch to
the correct direction even when a train
is approaching from the branches.
18050 and 18150 "R5" Manual
Switches
In some track configurations, the ties of
track sections attached an R5 switch
will interfere with each other. If this
occurs, use the 150 mm straight track
section included with each R5 manual
switch. To fit the section, you can cut
the ties as needed along the line mold-
ed on the underside of the ties. 150 mm
straight track sections are also avail-
able separately (10150).
Electric Switches
LGB electric switches include one or
more electric switch drives (Fig. 2). The
drive can be moved to either side of the
switch (b) with two screws.
Electric switch drives can be controlled
in four ways:
- b b y hand. Just push the points into the
correct position.
- with a 5 5 1750 LGB Control Box (Fig.
3). To move the switch points, press
the control button on the 51750.
- with 1 1 7100 Track Contacts (see L L GB
Circuits).
- with the Multi-Train System and the
55024/25 MTS Switch Decoders
(see M M ulti-Train System).
Hint: Electric drives are not spring
loaded. If a train passes through the
branches of an electric switch in the
"wrong" direction, the train will "open"
the points. The points will remain in the
new position.
However, light cars may need addition-
al weight to open the points. For greater
reliability, set the switch to the correct
direction even when a train is approach-
ing from the branches.
LGB Circuits
The 12010 LGB Switch Drive is part of
the LGB "LGB" system of automatic
train controls. The LGB system also
includes the 17100 LGB Track Contact,
the 12070 LGB Supplementary Switch
and other train control devices.
The 12070 LGB Supplementary Switch
is double-pole, double-throw switch
that attaches to the end of an LGB
switch drive (Fig. 4). Together, the drive
and supplementary switch make a
relay that can be used in a wide variety
of train control circuits.
