1. Preface
Hengstler preset counters of the series signo 721 are compact 5-digit
control counters.
The scope includes among other applications:
Measuring and control of production quantities of multiple press
tools
Measurement of liquid flow
Length measurements of fabrics, wires, metal pieces, wood, etc.
The pulses generated by sensors can be converted In the counter to
the desired number of
pieces, liquid volumes or other measuring dimensions by means of a
programmable prescaler value per pulse.
Important notes
The counters are available in two different basic versions and several
options.
Main versions
Preset counter with one preset (P)
Preset counter with two presets (P2)
Sach-Nr. 2 721 091; Version 1250100MW
Options
Both basic versions may alternatively:
Page
be operated at various supply voltage values
be equipped with transistor or relay outputs and/or
13
with various control inputs
13
be operated as static or dynamic adding/subtracting counters.
14
(In static adding/subtracting counters count reversal can only be
carried out manually.
16
In dynamic adding/subtracting counters count reversal can be ef-
16
fected by feeding a corresponding potential to a control input.)
16
The version of each counter is indicated by the Item Number on the
16
type plate (see Figure 4-1) and in the table on page 19.
16
17
With a few exceptions, the preset counters with one or two presets
18
are identical regarding their technical concept and handling. For this
18
reason these operating instructions include the descriptions of both
19
basic versions and all options.

2. Safety and warning hints
This symbol indicates passages in the text which you have to
pay special attention to so as to guarantee proper use and
preclude any risk.
Counters of the series signo 721 are built and tested in accordance
with VDE 0411, part 1 – Protection Measures for Electronic Measuring
Instruments - and have left our works in safe and proper condition.
In order to maintain these conditions and to ensure safe operation,
the user must observe the instructions and warnings provided in the-
se operating instructions. Counters may only be operated when built-
in!
The counters should be supplied with the operating voltages 12 -24 V
DC = 24 V AC ~ from an SELV-source (see EN 60 950 point 2.3) be-
cause there is no electrical insulation between the power supply and
the electronic inputs/outputs!
Assembling and mounting of electrical devices are restricted to be
done by skilled electricians!
