INPUT - There is a single instrument input provided, linked to a PASSIVE/
ACTIVE selector switch. The Passive input (switch out) is high sensitivity
and high impedance to suit the output from passive basses. The Active
input (switch in) is low sensitivity and lower impedance to suit the output
from active basses.
INPUT CONTROL - The INPUT control sets the signal level through the
preamp in conjunction with the INPUT LEVEL VU Meter. This should be
adjusted to give a reading of 0VU on the meter for average playing
dynamics, with occasional peaks into the red region. Please note: this may
require re-adjustment after altering the EQ controls.
PUSH FLAT / SHAPE - With this button in the OUT position, a fixed EQ
curve is applied to the preamp to produce a bright and punchy character.
Pushing this button IN returns the preamp to a flat frequency response.
This function may also be controlled by a footswitch. For the footswitch to
operate, this button must be in the OUT position.
VALVE DRIVE PLUS - This routes the signal through either a clean solid-
state amplification path (control at zero), or through a dual triode tube
amplification/overdrive circuit. This adds tonal character: warmth at 9
o'clock, edge at 12 o'clock, and increasing tube distortion/overdrive as
the control is turned further.
A mix of the two amplification stages can be achieved using this control.
Note: The amount of tube distortion also depends on the setting of the

INPUT control.
VALVE DRIVE IN/OUT - This push button switches the valve drive section
IN or OUT. This function may also be operated via a 4-way footswitch. For
the footswitch to work, the button must be in the OUT position.
E.Q. IN / OUT - This push button switches the equalisation section IN or
OUT — this includes the Bass, Middle, and Treble controls, as well as the
two sets of sliders positioned between them.
This can also be operated using the 4-way footswitch. For proper
operation, the button must be in the OUT position.
9 BAND EQUALISATION - This includes BASS, MIDDLE, and TREBLE
rotary controls, with three sliders placed between each. It can be used in
two ways:
•
•
DYNAMIC COMPRESSION – Compression enhances low-end definition
and helps manage playing dynamics to avoid overdriving the output
stage.
•
•
Simple Tone Control: Leave all sliders centered and use the rotary
controls for basic tone shaping.
Extended EQ Shaping: Use the sliders to tailor frequencies between
the main tone controls. This adds the flexibility of a graphic EQ while
retaining ease of use.
Subtle Compression: Adds warmth and note clarity.
Heavy Compression: Acts as an effect but flattens dynamic
