Setting the switch point
The relationship between air velocity and resistance change is non linear. In the lower flow velocity range the resistance
change is very large. In the upper flow velocity range identical changes in flow velocity result in increasingly smaller
resistance changes. When the switch point is set, it is important to note what change is to be monitored because different
settings have certain disadvantages.
Be aware of the following requirements:
Small flow change in high flow velocity range: The switch point must be selected very close to the normal flow
reading since flow changes only lead to a very small change in the measured value. Since temperature compensation
takes place with certain delay after the actual temperature change has occurred, this switch point setting is only
suitable for the applications which have slow temperature changes in the medium.
Small flow change in low flow velocity range: The switch point can be selected at a greater interval from the
normal flow reading because a change in flow velocity causes a very large change in the measured value. A
temperature change has not effect on switching behaviour.
Large change in flow rate: A Yes/NO statement is usually required here (e. g. fan running or fan stationary). You
can therefore selected a safety clearance which is so large that neither temperature changes nor turbulence can
have an affect on switching behaviour.
Initial operation of the NLSW45-3Ex
The NLSW45-3Ex should always be performed by properly qualified personnel!!
The qualified personnel require knowledge of ignition protection types, regulations and ordinances on equipment
in explosion hazard areas.
Check whether the classifications (as per these operating instructions+identcode) are suitable for the application.
The user has to ensure that there are no risks, e.g. as a result of aggressive media or mechanical hazards, while
the device is in use.
Assembly
The NLSW45-3Ex can be mounted on a top-hat rail DIN EN 50022-35 using bolts or a quick-release clamp.
If the unit is exposed to major vibrations, it is advisable to mount it on a rubber-metal vibration damper.
Commissioning
Please observe the following during the assembly and connection of the appliance:
-
Follow the assembly diagram and make sure that the operating voltage is correct!
The procedure for commissioning and adjusting the appliance is as follow:
1.
Connect the appropriate sensor F3Ex to the appliance.
2.
Set the "air flow" potentiometer to minimum sensitivity.
3.
Set the "t" (Start up-delay adjustable 5-60s) potentiometer to minimum.
4.
Connect the power supply; the appliance is operational within 2 seconds. The green LED lights up.
5.
The yellow LED lights up briefly and then turns off again (if the "t" is set to maximum the yellow LED remains
enlightened until the end of bridging period).
6.
Switch on the flow generator.
7.
Slowly turn the "air flow" potentiometer in the direction of maximum until the yellow LED has just lights up. To attain
stable switching behaviour turn the potentiometer slightly past this switching point.
Appliances with start-up break contact (start up-delay)
In some applications, the ventilator motors require a long run-up period. In this case, (depending on the sensitivity setting of
the appliance the necessary air current is not generated until after the run-up period and the airflow monitoring appliance
may switch to malfunction. During this time (approx 5-60 seconds), the output relay picks up; the yellow "airflow" LED lights
up. The appliance thus behaves as if an air current exists and does not disconnect.
We recommend that appliance with break contacts are connected to the airflow generator because the bridging time does
not begin until the power supply is switched on. If the monitoring appliance is switched on before the airflow generator the
internal run-up period could end before the air current is strong enough.
