Precautions for installation, maintenance and operation
Installation and operation
Read the manual and follow the instructions before
installation!
Installation and maintenance must be carried out by
qualified plumbers. The guaranty is voided in case of
malfunctioning of the valve due to clogging.
Provide manual to the plant operator and keep on
hand for further reference!
The pipework must be flushed before installation.
Stop valves must be provided upstream and downst-
ream of the RPZ backflow preventer for maintenan-
ce work. The first stop valve, in the direction of flow
upstream of the backflow preventer, type CA should
be equipped with a drain valve.
The backflow preventer, type CA must be installed in
the pipe in such a way that the bleeder valve points
downwards vertically. This allows the drain funnel
to function properly. An easily accessible installation
location makes maintenance and inspection easier.
The backflow preventer must only be installed in
spaces that are protected from flooding, high tem-
peratures and frost and that are well-ventilated. The
drain connection must be provided with sufficient
capacity. To permanently guarantee the flawless
functioning of the valve, we recommend connecting
a drinking water filter upstream of the backflow
preventer in accordance with DIN EN 13443, Part 1.
For the connection of the drain funnel to the sewage
system, the applicable standard DIN EN 12056 must
be observed.
During operation, the maintenance cut-off on the
outlet side must be fully opened. Due to tempera-
ture fluctuations, high pressures may occur between
the outlet anti-pollution check valve and the main-
tenance cut-off, which can cause the component to
fail.
Only close maintenance cut-off on the outlet side for
maintenance and repair work.
Warranty
Warranty or liability are voided through:
- Disregard of installation instructions.
- Damage due to faulty installation.
- Unauthorised product modifications.
- Other incorrect operation.
Use
The Backflow preventer, Type CA is designed to pro-
tect drinking water installations of category 3 fluids
or lower according to DIN EN 1717 /DIN 1988-100.
Do not use the device for other purposes than
described above as a Backflow preventer, Type CA in
non-freezing interiors.
Any other uses constitute misuse.
Functional description
The KEMPER backflow preventer, type CA contains all
parts specified in DIN EN 1717 and is designed as a
3-chamber system with non-controlled supply pressure,
middle pressure and back pressure zones. The backflow
preventer, type CA consists of two anti-pollution check
valves connected in series which are equipped with a
middle zone that can be ventilated. If no removal of
water occurs, the check valve and bleeder valve are
closed on the inlet and outlet sides. In the event of
siphon backflow, the pressure on the inlet side drops.
The backflow preventer, type CA then disconnects due
to the ventilation of the middle pressure zone from the
atmosphere when the pressure difference between the
middle pressure zone and inlet pressure zone is below
10% of the inlet pressure (pi-p1 < 10% p1).
Warnings
Be sure to read and follow the warnings in the
manual. Failing to do so can lead to personal injury
or material damage!
