Starting and Operating Pressure Test
For testing the high pressure circuit, disassembly the line between rail and high pressure pump.
If the line between rail and high pressure pump is too difficult to reach, then alternatively use a line between rail
and injector.
Select suitable connection hoses (M12x1.5 or M14x1.5) and assemble manometer between high pressure
pump and rail (see fig. 2). Pay attention to torque information supplied by vehicle manufacturer. Bleed air from
high pressure system according to vehicle manufacturer guidelines.
Operating Pressure Test:
Start the engine.
The manometer shows the operating pressure of the high pressure system for engine in idle speed
(usually 300 bar).Now pressure in various engine load conditions can be checked and compared with vehicle
manufacturer data.
If possible, always compare measured results with digital measurements from the on board diagnostics (OBD)
to identify faulty sensors etc.
Starting Pressure Test:
If engine does not start running, read pressure while activating the starter.
Compare measurement result with vehicle manufacturer information (usually 300 bar should be achieved).
If starting pressure is achieved in the high pressure circuit, then the high pressure pump is operating correctly.
In this case the fault is usually found in malfunctioning electronics, injectors or too low compression.
If starting pressure does not coincide with vehicle manufacturer information:
1. Check inlet pressure of low pressure circuit on high pressure pump according to vehicle manufacturer's
instructions.If inlet pressure is not correct, continue trouble-shooting in low pressure circuit of fuel
supply.
2. If inlet pressure is correct, proceed to test maximum pressure of high pressure pump.
If possible, always compare measured results with digital measurements from the on board diagnostics (OBD)
to identify faulty sensors etc.
Never disconnect high pressure fuel lines under pressure!
Observe the saftey instructions from this manual and the vehicle manufacturer!
