Functional description

The power supply PS 405 Pro has three independent low voltage outputs with con-
trollable outputs voltages.
The DC outputs of the power pack are dc-isolated and feature a fuse disconnector to
the mains voltage.
The output voltage of "OUTPUT A and B" has rough and fine controls. The output
current can be limited. The voltage and current for "OUTPUT A" are shown in dis-
plays "1" and "2", and for "OUTPUT B" in displays "3" and "4".
The output voltage from "OUTPUT C" can be read in display "3" by pressing the "6"
button. The voltage can be adjusted with the "VOLT ADJ" controller.
The secondary DC connection is made for all low voltage outputs with two coloured
safety sockets (black = minus pole, red = positive pole).
The mains power supply is cooled via convection. For this reason, make sure there is
an adequate air circulation and lateral distance to obstacles.
The power supply has an overheating protection mechanism that is activated in the
case of overload. Active switch-off protection is indicated by the "TEMP" display (5
or 20). The outputs are switched off during the cooling-off phase and become active
again automatically when the correct operating temperature is reached.

Placing the system in operation

General
A protective contact power cable (not included with delivery) is required to operate
the power supply. Plug the power cable into the rear side of the protective contact
cold device connector of the power supply and the earthed plug into a protective
contact power socket.
The power supply is not a battery charging unit. To charge batteries, use suitable
chargers with a charging current cut-off.
Make certain that no loads are connected on the power supply and turn on the pow-
er supply with the On/Off switch (19).
The power supply outputs are potential free and can be connected to each other as
well as with earth potential.
Voltage setting on "OUTPUT A and B"
• Turn the control for current limiting "AMPERE" slightly clockwise. The display for
current limiting "CC" disappears and the voltage limiting display "CV" starts to
light up.
18
• Use the "COARSE" control to make a rough setting of the desired output voltage.
Then you can use the "FINE" control to make fine adjustments to the voltage.
• The current direct voltage value is displayed in the "V" display (1 and 3).
Voltage setting of "OUTPUT C"
• Press the "6" button and hold it down.
• The current voltage of "OUTPUT C" is now displayed in digital display "3".
• Use the "VOLT ADJ" (7) to set the desired output voltage.
• After the setting is made, release the button again.
Setting current limiting of "OUTPUT A and B"
• Turn the control for current limiting "AMPERE" anticlockwise as far as it will go.
The display for current limiting "CC" lights up and the voltage limiting display "CV"
disappears.
• Short the contact sockets (14 for Output "A" or 12 for Output "B").
• Use the "AMPERE" control to adjust the maximum permissible output current. It
can be read in the display (2 or 4, depending on the output).
• Now turn the power supply off. Do not remove the short-circuit on the sockets until
you do so. Otherwise there would be a danger of a spark when disconnecting,
which could damage the power supply or the connection cable.
• Now the power supply can be turned on again.
• Current limiting is now active if the maximum power consumption is exceeded.
Connecting a load
• Make sure the load is switched off.
• Verify that the correct output voltage has been set.
• Connect the plus pole (+) of the load (consumer) to the red connection terminal "+"
and
• the minus pole (-) of the load/consumer to the black connection terminal "-".
• The connection can be made with 4-mm standard plugs or with laboratory mea-
suring leads.
Make sure that the loads are switched off when connected to the pow-
er supply. Sparks may be generated when a load that has been
switched on is connected to the terminal screw connectors. This may
damage the terminal screw connectors as well as the connected
cables.
