MEASURING PROCEDURE

1.
Position the chest piece (7) beneath the cuff (8) or slightly lower it
at a distance of 1-2 cm, ensuring it is in contact with the skin and
over the brachial artery.
2.
Insert the ear pieces (1) into your ears, double-checking that the
chest piece (7) is correctly positioned for clear hearing of the Ko-
rotkoff sounds.
3.
Remain stationary during the blood pressure measuring process.
3.
Secure the inflation bulb air release valve (6) by rotating its knob
clockwise, being careful not to overtighten it.
4.
Inflate the cuff (8) to a level about 40 mmHg above the expected
systolic (maximum) pressure. When self-measuring, use the infla-
tion bulb (4) with your free hand and avoid using the hand from
the arm being measured.
IMPORTANT: If the expected blood pressure value is unknown,
inflate the cuff to 200 mmHg.
5.
Slowly open the air release valve (6) by turning the adjustment
wheel counterclockwise to allow a consistent pressure drop of
about 2-3 mmHg per second. Pay attention to notice when the cuff
(8) starts deflating. Record the systolic value when you first hear
faint, rhythmic, or strong sounds.
6.
Continue to steadily decrease the pressure of the cuff at the same
speed. When you distinctly hear at least two consecutive heart-
beats, that indicates the maximum (SYSTOLIC) pressure, while
when these heart sounds become impossible to hear you have
found the minimum (DIASTOLIC) pressure.
7.
Fully open the air release valve (6) to deflate the cuff (8).
8.
Avoid keeping the cuff (8) inflated for an extended period.
9.
Repeat the measurement at least twice, writing down the values,
date, and time right after each measurement.
10. Remove the cuff (8) and the stethoscope (2).
11. Store the meter with the valve (6) set to the fully open position.
