ELSA; Repair Group 63
Apply masking tape liberally in the areas where the holes are to be drilled in order to protect the bumper covering.
Mark the drilling positions on the bumper covering using a centre-punch and drill using a 2 mm ∅ bit.
Use an ∅ 20 mm Forstner bit to drill the holes from the outside.
Deburr the holes for the sensors in the bumper covering.
Only applies for Q3 S Line:
Page 2 - Figure 3
Note
The inner sensor installation holes must be drilled in the positions marked on the inside of the bumper cover.
The outer sensor installation holes are marked and drilled as shown in the following illustration.
To make the marking process simpler and protect the bumper covering, apply tape generously to the areas to be
drilled as shown in the following illustration.
Mark the centre line of the vehicle on the adhesive tape, e.g. starting from the tailgate.
Mark the outer drilling points carefully on the bumper covering as shown on the illustration opposite.
Centre punch the outer marked drilling points.
Remove the bumper covering.
ELSA; Repair Group 63
Centre punch the inner drilling points on the inner side of the bumper cover in accordance with the markings.
Use an ∅ 2 mm bit to pre-drill all of the installation holes and then drill them from the outside using an ∅ 20 mm
Forstner bit.
Deburr the holes for the sensors in the bumper covering.
1.3 Fitting the sensors, connecting and laying the wiring harness
Remove the luggage compartment floor mat from the vehicle.

Does not apply for Q3 S Line:
Page 3 - Figure 1
Route the supplied sensor wiring harness to the drilled holes -1a-, -2-, -3- and -4a- in the bumper covering. Wire 1
must be allocated to the left-hand drilled hole -1a- in the forward direction and the other wires, 2...4, must then be
allocated in sequence.
Only applies for Q3 S Line:
An additional drilled hole is needed in the bumper cover recess for the supply lines -5- to the left-hand sensor -1b-
and right-hand sensor -4b- (magnifier shows the left-hand recess).
Centre punch the drilled points.
Use an ∅ 12 mm bit to drill a hole and remove the swarf carefully.
Route the supplied sensor wiring harness to the drilled holes -1b-, -2-, -3- and -4b- in the bumper covering. Wire 1
must be allocated to the left-hand drilled hole -1b- in the forward direction and the other wires, 2...4, must then be
allocated in sequence.
Continue for all vehicles:
Secure the wiring harness with the supplied cable ties -arrows- to the existing wiring or brackets in the bumper cover.
Page 3 - Figure 2
Note
The following steps can only be completed after the paint on the sensors is completely dry.
For reasons of clarity, the figure shows a dismantled sensor.
The correct position of the sensors can be seen using the markings in the outer ring of the sensors - these must
point upwards.
The plug -3- is designed such that it can only be plugged into the connector socket -1- on the sensor -2- in one position.
Clip the sensors -2- into the holes in the bumper covering.
Connect the plug -3- to the connector sockets -1- of the sensors -2-. Push the covers -4- over the sensors -2-.
